I think with how quickly it's spread makes it official, both intentionally and unintentionally.

And honestly it's pretty hard not to say it that way verbally once you hear it.

Even my own mother has fallen victim.

Some thought down here is that Canada took issue with some of the language on external trade deals wrt strategic minerals and foreign ownership.
Best guess is that it was perhaps a clumsy way to say we can’t have China involved in some things up yonder.

Not sure I’d have decided to start a trade war about it, as there where likely better ways to encourage Canada to lock China out of some circles.

I'd consider this a tentative step towards the negotiating table. We'll say if it leads to something a bit more positive.

Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the federal government "welcomes" the United States "withdrawing" its positions on the French language and culture after U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told CBC News Canada's streaming laws are not a "red line" for the American side.

"We look forward to further constructive U.S. clarifications on their other positions which would create the possibility of a mutually beneficial trade agreement that respects Canadian sovereignty."

Did you miss the part about the US forcing us to impose tariffs on our trading partners including ones we have FTAs with? And that we had to follow them in lock step with tariffs? Yet still get tariffed our selves. Thats surrendering sovereignty over our trade policy to them

Like Article 32.10 of CUSMA?

That's protecting North American markets. Or "fortress North America", something we should be aiming for.

No amount of spin makes this acceptable. There is no "on the other hand" here. Fuck them and anyone who tries to justify their actions in this completely unecessary trade war.

Is it the same kind of provision Canada has already agreed to and currently in place in CUSMA?

If it is... your outrage seems to be wildly misplaced.

I know 32.10 covers “what if Canada wants to negotiate a free trade deal,” but which bit of CUSMA says “Canada has to match US tariffs against other countries” - I’m always willing to be educated.
