Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

MND calling the DM and CDS into his office, letting them know that this is overdue, that the RCN rank change is five years overdue, that the QR&O renaming is also overdue., and that they'd best have it fixed in two weeks or both are walking the plank would be a very positive bit of progress.
But how do you get the message that this is overdue to the MND if it has to be filtered through the CDS and DM - oh wait - an honourary lieutenant-colonel!!!

Passing legislation and trusting the bureaucracy to execute is not a sound way to advance, based on past performance.

And a strong encouragement to others at the DM and equivalent level to up their games.
I suspect we don’t have a PM at present who simply “trusts the bureaucracy”. Naming Sabia as Clerk is evidence of that.

I suspect that, after having met this MND, he has a fair idea of what is happening in DND, and why/why not…

That RCN rank thing is a real bee in your bonnet eh? 😂

CID has been deprecated for several years. Replaces by a SharePoint site that's got the same data quality issues, but at least isn't a janky Access database in the backend.
Was just going off what the last public Defence Plan had publicly listed as the capability repository. 😉

Sorry for NDHQ its an Honoary General

No idea where to put this. But so happy to see this. One of my personal pet peeves has always been how we screw over NCMs. They don't get civvy certs. But pilots, doctors, all of us officers with graduate degrees? Competition with civvy sector justifies our pay. I've advocated wherever I can that Borden should be turned into an Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology (CAAT) and privates completing trades training should get college 2 yr diplomas. This is a start:

Security guards of the Danish Homeguard. Part-timers.

Tasks of the Army Home Guard.

Danish Marine Homeguard on the ranges - unpaid

Times have changed where they offer a 2 year diploma towards the AME license.
I wonder how much the Military Curriculum is going to change to fit the Civilian side of certification. There is a lot of differences in Airworthiness side of things to consider.
Hopefully the military does not have to do the intensive bolt and nut AN/MS side of the training. LOL.

I'm not sure you want that. Over time, any CAF involvement will be replaced by 'professional academics' who will decide what the CAF needs. Eventually, it will have no input to the output and not like the product it produces.

The CAF would be better to partner with the unions and trade councils.

Or re-role the (expensive, exclusive) Military Colleges to deliver military trades training for NCMs in addition to the academic courses exclusively for Officers.

That’s not how colleges work. You are conflating college and university. In Canada, those have different meanings. They are governed & accredited differently by provinces.

With those colleges actually being universities, you open the door what lenaitch warns of. If CAF wants colleges, then create them as such. Otherwise, keep doing what CAF has been doing for over 20 years and continue to form partnerships with schools that already offer programs CAF needs.

The Fanshaw arrangement is not groundbreaking. Similar arrangements have been made with Algonquin, NSCC, and probably others.

When I was training at CFSATE in 2004 they were suppose to be getting Civilian accreditation as a Aerospace training facility. Not sure where that went off the rails. I do know where but in reality the Military provided some pretty good training, just not at the same standard for Civilian qualification.
Had they of brought in Civilian School Staff to help build the program back then they would have had a awesome program now.
Civilians generally do not learn about bombs, guns and things that go boom on purpose.
I would look forward to what this does for our members. But I caution making an Full AME is different than making a AVN/AVIS Tech. Similar but not the same.
I think what they should focus on is making a conversion course that is Transport Compliant by the time a person reaches their QL5. Then they can challenge the Tests. Make all the resources available to the members to reach that goal then it is up to them.
Otherwise you are going to have Techs trained to make Aircraft U/S based on Civilian standards that otherwise meet Military ones.
