Poland seems to be doing fine with 40% growth over the last 10 years and 35.2% of their population not working.

That 1% difference in workforce isn't why we're behind them by 38% in GDP per capital growth. It's been our terrible economic policies over the last 10 years, which are traced directly to the current PM who was the the former PMs secret economic advisor, and the current cabinet which is 80ish percent of the former PMs failure of a cabinet.

Sounds like he’s stealing center right ideas again. I hope he keeps going with these things.
He really needs to come out forcefully on the PRC’s influence, interference and intimidation campaigns and promise to give CSIS and the RCMP the tools to counter these activities. The other parties have their issues too, but the United Front is especially imbedded with the Liberals. Carney was looking pretty chummy at a United Front sponsored event recently.

He's also said he's going to get rid of the GST on homes for first time home buyers for houses under $1mil.
Ummm…correct me if I’m wrong, but won’t that juice demand?

we could use some heavier supply side work but i guess thats on the provinces

Probably won't be an election issue but should be, the impending demographic implosion. The CPC keeps quoting our our capita GDP as a signal of why we are failing. But if you dive into we have a demographic problem not a economic one. As of July 1st 2024, 21.1% of our population is 65 and older, another 15.6% is 14 and under. So 36.7% of the population isn't working, which works out to just over 15 million people. As of Feb this year 20.9 million people were in the labout force. That's why our GDP per capita is in the crapper, half the population isn't working anymore. The median age in Canada is 40, so the number of people over 65 is going to get bigger soon.
House prices are a big impact on having kids. It's hard to afford kids if all your income goes to rent/mortgage payments, or if you can't upgrade to a larger house to raise kids.

For some people, that's their idea of a good time ;)

Anyone else notice all the leaders are silent on the news that China executed 4 Canadians last year?

Look at Canada in this chart. And people are going to give the LPC another term?

It’s telling that Arya doesn’t seem to be fighting back or be making any noise about being removed from the leadership or this now…

I noticed the mild-ish response, too.

Yes because Poilievre is mean. We can't have a mean leader, we need a nice one. Like Justin.
And yet, the aggregate of polling showed people were willing to vote for the mean guy way more than Justin before and just after JT said he'd leave.

Maybe a lot of it has to do with who PP is compared to, and how quickly Team Blue can change its sails to match the latest political winds?

We'll see soon enough!

Notice how real GDP growth is the only economic statistics the CPC uses? Because it's the only statistic that's under preforming. Other things like wage growth, unemployment etc are all second or third in the G7.
Dude, it costs me like $1400 to feed my family a month now, our dollar is in the tank, our resources are locked behind ideological laws, interest rates are through the roof and we've lost our biggest trading partner by being weak on national security. I literally have no idea how partisans are contorting themselves into a position to vote Liberal if there's an election. The ABC rose coloured glasses are thick it seems.

What would we expect them to say in the current climate? The 4 were dual citizens (which is not recognized by China) convicted of drug crimes. I can't find the full details of what they were convicted of doing, but if you break the laws in a foreign country, why should Canada interfere to save your skin?

Younger people would have been vastly better off if the covid epidemic had been more efficient, in the end it had a pretty small demographic impact. Would have sped up the wealth transfer AND real estate transfer AND lowered longer term health costs.

Canada has a long standing rule about advocating for Canadians sentenced to death and push for lesser sentences.

I agree with you in principle but there are times that some countries laws can be ridiculous and violate human rights. some should be interfered with. I say this in general and not specifically about this.

Real estate issues pre date Covid.

But you are saying letting people die to increase available real estate and inheritance.

Disgusting.

Regarding Mark Carney....

My opinion is he is an impressive candidate. He is educated, well spoken, professionally accomplished, and gives off the aura of being a proper statesman. He is someone who I can respect and who I can see as a Prime Minister.

That being said, there are certain LPC positions that I can't get behind. Mainly to do with taxes and gun control. Which is why regardless of the above, I have trouble supporting them.
