Canadian modular assault rifle project, a C7 replacement?

Well its in the wild now, 33 CBG recently got to test the C25 and C26 on the range, and got some hands on with the C27 grenade launcher. Looking forward to when I can get my hands on it out west.

Friend of mine who's shot a bit tried one of them at Connaught and indicated that with the Suppressor, it seems more like a paintball gun in terms of felt recoil and noise. Also the muzzle rise is probably 30-40% of what it was with a C-7. That's good news for follow-up shots.

He mentioned that the trigger was very nice as well - not sure if they're using a drop-in trigger pack for them or something?

Flashbacks to the original C7 mags.

Hopefully that's a pensionable condition.
Years ago Drake Clark from Magpul sent me a tri-wall of PMAG’s to test as he knew my thoughts at the time on polymer mags due to the Thermold debacle.
I took 100 to Iraq, the rest got given away to CAF serials training at MidSouth and BlackWater.

Honestly the PMAG is by far the best magazine for a combat weapon at this point in time (and the last ~22 years as well).

I know ;) Just having an old guy flashback that reminds me and others that Not Everything Was Better back in the old days.

Come on - what could be better than a Winter Ex that as soon as you insert the mag - it snaps the feedlips and half go out the ejection port - the rest get stuck in a mess.

The Diemaco (pre Colt Canada) had the gall to tell me how Thermold magazines where so superior to other magazines in testing...

Back in the day I acquired a couple of the Thermold magazines to run through a friend's AR15 . Tossed the empty magazines into my backpack with a couple of books and thermos of coffee.
When I got to to the range I opened the backpack to find the magazines damaged beyond use .

For those interested the implementation order for the C25/C26/ & C27 role out was signed on June first and can be read on DLRs ECN page. Trainers begin training in jan 27. Full roll out completed NLT jan 2030. Some interesting notes in the orders regarding storage, and entitlements.

For those not tracking C27 is the new grenade launcher.

I haven’t kept good track of this, did they settle on an optic?

Looking like a real win for CAF procurement. BZ to all involved for such a relatively smooth procurement.

Would you mind summarizing the difference between the FS and CS for me?
sure, The biggest difference is barrel length, the FS is longer, meant for the infantry only, and can mount the C27 grenade launcher. Once the new ammo arrives it will allow a infantry soldier to engage targets effectively at 500m (there will be a PWT level 5 for 500m). Here is a side by side picture of CWO (Ret'd) John Yoshida showing them off the other night at 33 Svc Bn. As you can see the stock is a slightly different model as well to allow for a storage compartment for optic batteries. I am loving that we finally went with magpul for accessories, and PMags are coming too.

Thanks dude. What physical lengths are those barrels? The FS still looks pretty long.

I have a very similar stock on my rifle (Magpul STR) and it's great for comfort. Not that much heavier than the CTR stock either.

What's the muzzle contraption?
