Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

We do love our Iranian government officials.

Canada gave contracts to Iran VP’s son while investigating role in regime missile program

he Canadian government awarded millions worth of contracts to the son of Iran’s former vice-president, despite an ongoing investigation into allegations he helped the Islamic Republic evade sanctions and develop missile systems, documents obtained by Global News reveal.

Since founding two companies in Alberta, an Edmonton resident named “Sal Ghafouri” has received more than $2 million in federal and provincial contracts, including from the RCMP and Department of National Defence, public records show.

I respect Carney for being humble enough to listen to the opposition when they have good ideas.
All politicians, business leaders, military leaders, all leaders, should check their ego at the door and listen to good ideas - and implement - good ideas whenever and from whomever they come from.

It really is that simple.

Shame Pierre's communication team didn't get the memo, his social media just posted about the labour day Carney gas tax hike.....awkward

Reactions: ytz
Yeah, there's no excuse for not sitting on social media hitting refresh every 10 minutes.
In fairness, it’s probably a safe bet both parties have poorly paid interns midway through a communications degree whose literal job is to do exactly that.

I’m equally sure they’re using social media management software that they can pre-load with posts scheduled to go out across various platforms at what they feel are the optimal times.

They've been making the same posts for months. Are you seriously trying to dig that deep to find fault with the Tories instead of focusing on the actual issue of Carney waiting until the absolute last minute to make this announcement? It was an easy win announcement to make after trade talks fell apart to change the narrative but they fumbled it again.

Absolute last minute? It would of kicked in next Tuesday. So this is the week prior which is usually when we see announcements about programs about to sunset. Yes it was an easy win, but to say it was last minute is not accurate

2 days before a long weekend is absolutely last minute. It smacks of a knee jerk reaction to public pressure not a deliberate policy decision. They set this date when they made the badly needed relief months ago, this shouldn't have been a surprise or fuel (no oun intended) for the opposition.

Conversely, had they made the announcement before the three by-elections, they’d be getting shit on for that and we’d be hearing - probably from some right here on army.ca - that they were playing electoral politics with tax policy aimed to reduce the sting of the trade war.

Speaking for myself, being out on the east coast on a road trip right now and returning to Ontario after Labour Day, I’m simply happy at the policy result.

This government took the same approach to announcements extending the firearms amnesty, waiting until almost the day before it expired to announce the extensions.
