Here's hoping injuries are minimal.

PM Carney and Premiere Smith are both posting ‘thoughts are with’ type posts on social media. This sound really bad.

MOD POST: I edited out some light-hearted material that, in hindsight on the apparent seriousness of this incident, may not have been appropriate. No fault of anyone, just being sensitive until we know more.

Id wait for official sources, rule #1, never trust first reports

Let’s just hope any casualties are minimal and not serious

Fire is large enough its tracking on firms. No wonder the response. The northern most blip is at the tip of the ammo compound

Weather Network shows winds are blowing from west to east. So, unless there was a complete shift in direction, that did not start in the ammo compound.

Nope, but my comment was intended to highlight the fire fighter response to prevent it spreading into the compound. Which would be really bad.

So, I’m filtering some cop-side RUMINT because I don’t know how to weight it yet. That said, sounds bad.

The PM, Premier, and leader of the opposition are all on social media with the ‘thoughts and prayers’ noises.

NASA FIRMS shows a satellite detectable fire though of uncertain accuracy, originating in the RTA. Weather right now shows high winds. Regions municipality reports a fire spreading from on base to off base.

Plane nerds have Alberta STARS helicopter plus fixed wing medevac landing.

I have enough info I trust to believe there has been a mass cas on base with single figure fatalities, and as yet undetermined injuries.

I think we have a very bad day for CAF, with lots to be determined. Look after your people, and wait fofrsolid word.

Local media says there was an explosion

I read on another site that said a number of people had died. Given that it’s early in this crisis I’m not feeding the rumour mill,

Sadly he confirms fatalities. May those who died rest in peace
