The collapse of the BQ and weakening of the NDP are the story. CPC improved their vote share in Atlantic Canada.

And, plot twist: It's all coming down to the west to determine whether or not it's a majority government.

According to the LPC supporters here, the NDP should be glad they are getting crushed, because their leader played 10D Chess and destroyed his party to keep the LPC in power.

My hope now: LPC is held to a minority, and either:

• PP's replacement* is less adversarial and can work across the aisle to influence said minoroty
• Absent the above, there enough moderate CPC MP's willing to risk being thrown out of caucus to break ranks on confidence motions and prop up said minority for concessions

Don't want an LPC majority, don't want the bloc or NDP holding undue leverage as kingmakers

What could a Conservative ask for that a Liberal would even possibly consider conceding on?
Would the LPC walk back their gun control fanatism in exchange for bipartisan support on defence, foreign policy etc.

Harper wanted 2004 coalition: Duceppe​

Stephen Harper once tried to form the type of coalition government he's now calling illegitimate and unprincipled, Bloc Québécois Leader Gilles Duceppe said Saturday as he launched his election campaign.

Duceppe slammed Stephen Harper for his criticism of the opposition over trying to work together.

"He finished second in that election," Duceppe said in Montreal. "If he says that's undemocratic, well, that's exactly what he was asking for. So let's not play games with history. He has to take responsibility."

Depends. I’m with James Moore who says focus on dealing with the US issue etc and then go political again in 2027.

If Canada is really facing multiple crises like the parties claim we are...Trump/Tariffs, China, Russia/Defence, Housing, Productivity, Demographics, Crime/Drugs/Mental Health, Pipelines/Energy, Environment, etc. then the idea solution would be a Liberal/Conservative National Emergency Coalition Government with PP (if he remains leader) as Deputy PM, some Cabinet positions shared with the Conservatives. Agree to maintain the coalition until after the next US Presidential Election and agree to limit legislation to a few key, agreed upon areas that directly address the major problems. Presents Trump with a Government representing 85% of Canadian voters.

Total fantasy of course, but really would be the ideal solution to heal some of the East/West, Urban/Rural rifts in the country and allow Canada to do some of the heavy lifting required to get us back on track.

What could a Conservative ask for that a Liberal would even possibly consider conceding on?

I was thinking fiscal restraint and stimulus. Once you strip out PP's ghost revenues both parties were planning on massive deficit funded stimulus measures- the primary difference was the how, with a material but somewhat overstated difference in degree. If you can get the LPC to adopt more tailored version of the capital gains reinvestment tax cut, and say, one of the non-financial/ regulatory measures, plus strip 20 billion in deficit fat over the next 4 years, how much better is that than the result of a deal with the NDP?
