2025 Federal Election - 28 Apr 25

The complete collapse of the NDP and the partial collapse of the Bloc are the stories of the night so far.

As of right now: 92 LPC, 64 CPC, 13 BQ, 1 NDP (1!)

Crazy to me to read the article and there may be some kind of underlying staffing thing because Jenny Byrne previously worked in the Ford office and got fired? I imagine there probably was some back room push to get the fed CPC to try and adjust the messaging after Trudeau stepped down before they eventually went public. This total falling apart should be studied by the party if they ever want to get elected again; they relied way too heavily in 'don't vote for that guy, he sucks' and seems to have fallen apart when Trudeau left.
Her time with the Ontario PCs was only a small part of her political/political-adjacent career (2018-2020). She strikes me as hyper-partisan and is a power groupie. Wiki has a pretty decent summary of her background.

The collapse of the BQ and weakening of the NDP are the story. CPC improved their vote share in Atlantic Canada.

And, plot twist: It's all coming down to the west to determine whether or not it's a majority government.

Generally the West goes blue except for segments of Manitoba....there are some diehard Dippers here and hard core Libs.
Can't see any Libs being elected in Alberta.
BC? I'm not sure about them....

Jagmeet has done irreparable damage to the NDP brand I believe.

I am apathetic about the result tbh. I went and voted but I can't remember an election that I have been more cynical about. Nothing any party talked about really interested me.

I enjoyed the Rhinoceros Party platform...

Canadian Heritage

Since Canadian Heritage is THE number one priority of the Rhinoceros Party, we are committed to defending Canadian values and promoting our history.

  1. Make “Sorry” the new official motto of Canada.
  2. Nationalize bacon.
  3. To create a more egalitarian Canada, all maps will be redrawn so that provinces are rectangles like Saskatchewan.
  4. Make illiteracy the third official language of Canada.

My hope now: LPC is held to a minority, and either:
  • PP's replacement* is less adversarial and can work across the aisle to influence said minoroty
  • Absent the above, there enough moderate CPC MP's willing to risk being thrown out of caucus to break ranks on confidence motions and prop up said minority for concessions
Don't want an LPC majority, don't want the bloc or NDP holding undue leverage as kingmakers

as before, unless he loses his seat I don't think he steps down. * Andrew Coyne just mentioned that possibility, and his extent of is core support

Hey, I know only one poll has reported so far, but as of now PP is down in his riding 57 to 40%.

Can it last???
