This is a big stumbling block for me too. I cant turn coat on my fellow firearm's owners.
If Carney would just walk them back to pre-2015 regulations... As a start.

i doubt my vote will impact the outcome either way. Id still be happier with an Otoole led CPC but either PP or OToole over Trudeau is a slam dunk, OToole vs Carney is a closer decision IMO than the CPC are looking at right now. Maybe the debates will matter

I am the same. I have some other issues with their Party platform and past actions as well
I also can't look past what they did to Admiral Norman and a few others. It was malicious and they need to be held accountable for that corruption.
I think Carney is an impressive candidate but the Party itself is rotten and needs a purge. I am also ideologically opposed to the direction the LPC is taking the Country.

Down here we can write in a candidate - which gives one more freedom to express one’s opinions. While it is basically a futile attempt, it isn’t the same as spoiling a ballot. Spoiled ballots aren’t tallied, so it is the exact same as not voting - believing anything else about spoiled ballots is simply self delusion.
Carney isn't walking back anything. And that isn't me saying so, it's basically Carney saying as much himself...
He isn't going to change direction on gun control.
He isn't going to repeal Bill C-69
(regardless of whether that bill is well understood by the public or not, the general public understands it to be legislation against any new pipelines.)
He was Trudeau's advisor for the last 5 years. He isnt about to steer the ship in a different direction than the one he's been advising we take for the last half decade.
What an absolute turd of a young person for them to find & talk to about the upcoming election...

Open ANY web browser on your phone, and the news articles that pop up are consistently election related...
Open YouTube. Same thing.
Turn on the news. Pick up a local paper.
Listen to any conversations happening around you...
You don't have time to take 10 minutes and just Google the basic platforms of the 3 main parties?
When your rent goes up even more, or the price of gas skyrockets overnight, or the cost of groceries aggressively creeps up by 100% or more, etc do you not have any curiosity as to why??
The only barrier she has to voting is her utter retardation & apparent sheer apathy.
(Just to be clear, I would NEVER use that word in regards to someone who is legitimately handicapped. I use it in a purely disrespectful manner towards people who say or do deliberately ignorant or stupid things)

I’ll still maintain that Peter MacKay would have been the CPC’s best choice, but here we are…my concern with Carney remains China, China, China…and I’m not seeing any effective distancing *on his part. Team Red has done a very effective job making Trump that baddy, which for the short team he is, but we’re not going to do well against the Confucian long game in this…

I’ve never spoiled a ballot in my life but I get why some do. And it isn’t out of any self delusion.
While the spoiled vote is not counted as a vote it is still counted towards the numbers for voter turnout which is why it is still better than staying home because it shows some engagement in the democratic process. So no it isn’t the same thing as not voting.
At least in Ontario you can decline your vote and it is recorded as such. Federally we are stuck with what we have though.

The vote isn’t counted.
The voters presence at the polling booth is.
Which doesn’t alter anything than staying home. It simply meant you used gas to get to the polling booth, but other than that sitting on the couch had the same effect.
Symbolic difference maybe, but effectively the same, it doesn’t alter the calculus of the votes.
Writing in, while pretty much futile at least records a vote for X.

I agree. Returning officers have to account for all of the ballots issued so have to report on the number of counted not counted (spoiled, rejected, etc.) and unused ballot forms. They are recorded, but not counted.

I agree broadly with what you said, though I would have said it differently.
The one thing I disagree on is the "open a browser, or open YouTube". The things you see when you open any app these days are fed to you by an algorithm. Each person's feed will display different things based on age, gender, and browsing history. If kids have spent their entire online life never looking at news, particularly politics, the algorithm won't feed them political news.
It's a weak excuse to not be informed, but it is entirely possible that they don't see anything about the election because the algorithm is feeding them what they normally engage with.

Pretty much, except as far as I know they are recorded on different lines - it's basically a reconciliation form to avoid claims of missing, extra, etc. ballots. No one other than election nerds care anyway; everyone just cares about how many people voted for whom. Nobody sees a large number of spoiled ballots and worries about the state of our democracy. They will just write it off as a lot of klutzes. I refused my ballot at the recent provincial election and am under no illusion that a committee has been formed to study the matter.

Based on the post below, might not be a bad thing for Team Blue if the 18 - 34 "cohort", especially women, do not vote.
