2025 Federal Election - 28 Apr 25

And kept playing the same game too long.
We shall find out if thats true election time.

Right now Carney has a lot of shine to him, but as time progresses it is clear he is just following the same/extremely similar pathway as Trudeau. We are also being exposed to his personality which he had the relative advantage of being unknown by the Canadian public before being shot into the limelight.

Already things have started to balance back from the extremes (both Liberal and Conservative wise). Two weeks is a long time in Canadian politics at the moment, especially with the great disruptor to the South in play.

Carney doubling down on things like gun control doesn’t exactly win him votes in a lot of the country but it guarantees a lot won’t vote for him. It will also cause many to consider why is this such a priority at this time as I have seen even some of the left leaning arguing to arm themselves against the American threat.

Today’s aggregate as we end week 3.

Pretty stable for last little while. Slight fluctuations in projected seat count.

CPC seemingly unable to move that needle for now.

With two weeks left and very stable polls, CPC don’t have a whole lot of time remaining to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Advance polls open Friday. They need something big and they need it this week.

I don't see it happening, PP's image and style is too tied to MAGAland in their rhetoric and imaging. Support for the Freedumb convoy, how he frequently takes personal attacks against his rivals (ignoring his own total lack of demonstrated capabilities at things he criticizes them for), and general populist style are all becoming an albatross around his neck.

Whether it's going to be any different, the one thing for the Liberals was it was a pretty big cult of personality for Trudeau, so when he stepped down it seems to have wiped the slate clean for a lot of people, and combined with Trump being a global wrecking ball of mind shattering stupidity it would take some kind of Deux Ex Machina that would shame M. Night Shamalan. I think that combo has made people that wouldn't have voted for Trudeau change their minds in a substantial way, as well as gotten people to reconsider support for PP by association. Lot of MAGA flags in pretty conservative places in my region are now gone.

Like him or not, Carney is smart, hardworking and about as boring as you would expect from a career banker and economist with a substantial academic background, and if he had closets in his skeleton they would have been unearthed a long time ago. I think he'll keep his campaing jogging along and coast into a majority government due to circumstances no one could predict but massively tilts things in their favour.

Without the paywall.

These are Carney’s peers. The people that understand and work in the game. And the people that understand Carney the best.

The debate(s) will define who leads next week, going into the election. That definition will be largely based on who has the best "Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy" moment.

Might define.

James Moore has a good take on it.

I don’t agree that they don’t matter. But he brings up good points that those gotcha moments are few and far between as candidates are well prepared to deal with that.

Whether the debate matters or not, this is likely one of the last chances the CPC might have to do something to turn the tables. But banking in that being the TSN turning point alone would be a long shot.

2 weeks out is when we were always told the biggest impact was to be made

Ford or Kenney. Either would probably wipe him out following a loss. Ford would have the edge I think, for the ability to bring more Ontario vote.

As much as I might disagree with Ford, I'd rather he stick around here in Ontario until at least the OLP and ONDP figure themselves out. Knowing how we tend to vote.

You don’t shit in the bed at summer camp and come back the next year.
Is there a backstory you'd like to share with the class??

Does the ability to speak French matter?
I don't how much he learned. I don't think I've ever heard him even try prepared text during the recent election in Franco-Ontario pockets like Sudbury, northeastern or eastern Ontario.

The picture is of him meeting with members of the JCCC at a liberal campaign event. It's entirely possible that he did not in fact know the organization that they represented when he met with them; there was certainly a lot of hand-shaking and picture taking at the event. It's also entirely possible that the description of their "in depth discussion" (as reported on the organizations website) was just Carney shaking hands and re-iterating his position to them (if you listen/read what they say about the "discussion", it just a re-hash of his position on building international relationships and developing new markets), and I could definitely believe they would exaggerate the scope of their encounter with him on the organizations website.
So will PP get the same benefit of the doubt for the multitude of people (some with “questionable” backgrounds) he takes pictures with?
Goose and gander?
