A Deeply Fractured US

Apparently... woman videoing ICE activities is followed and nabbed:

Unmarked car, masked men with weapons drawn, not identifying themselves before pointing their weapons at you, no official ID presented to the person, no explanation as to why they are demanding the person to exist the vehicle - wow.

Local police got invovled. I think this is the first time this has happened and likely not the last from what I'm seeing coming from other cities PD's.

I haven seen Don Lennon's arrest come up here yet... I'm a bit surprised by that.
I had to look up who that was and what happened.

Seems pretty straight forward: he thought himself righteous and in doing so, acted like a dick and violated the FACE act, leading to a justifiable arrest.

Not sure why that would be a topic for more/in-depth discussion. Is there something I'm missing about it Tar?

Time will tell on that one. Reading through the indictment he may have crossed beyond what would be an acceptable journalistic presence and actions; I don’t know enough about how their law will apply to say. But it’ll be a tough sell for prosecutors. They had trouble even getting the indictment in the first place, and I’m sure his network will provide skilled lawyers.

Bri, Lemon doesn't work for anyone anymore. He's an independent.

Lemon and eight other co-defendants, including another journalist, have been charged with conspiracy against religious freedom at a place of worship and injuring, intimidating, and interfering with the exercise of the right of religious freedom at a place of worship. He is supposedly charged under both the FACE Act and the KLAN act.

I get the FACE Act charges. I took one quick read of the Klan Act and I'm not sure where that one fits. Sounds like almost the same thing as the FACE Act.

Oh, ok. Shows how little attention I pay to their media ecosystem. I would expect he has some sort of legal insurance, but anyway, neither my monkey nor my zoo.

Like I said, I read the indictment… Not sure how the courts will see it in terms of participant in a conspiracy versus journalist along for the ride. Journalists tend to enjoy considerable though not absolute protection. But he may have gone beyond those protections.

If in fact he committed crimes, well, you know the old thing about when you choose the behaviour…

Conservative commentator SE Cupp, who worked with Lemon and did not like him at all, had an interesting take on his situation.

Even though it sounds like she really detests him, she thinks he was arrested for committing journalism.

Good read, thanks for that.

The man was poison in my mind when he was at CNN. I’d change the channel when he’d be on. He was demoted to morning tv and didn’t get along with his co hosts and was subsequently let go. He’s been trying to stay relevant. Looks like he found a way to stay in the news…

Meanwhile, in Norway, a few fractures also appearing...

Norwegian crown princess' son detained ahead of rape trial

Just days prior, newly released US documents revealed Høiby's mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, maintained extensive contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014.

Police in Oslo detained the stepson of Norway's crown prince on Sunday, accusing him of assaulting a woman, threatening her with a knife and breaching a restraining order just two days before he faces trial on multiple rape charges.

Marius Borg Høiby, 29, will appear in Oslo district court on Tuesday charged with 38 offences including four alleged rapes and attacks on former partners. Prosecutors are seeking to hold him in custody for four weeks, citing concerns he may reoffend.

"Oslo Police District can confirm that Marius Borg Høiby was arrested by police on Sunday evening," authorities said in a statement Monday.

Just days prior, newly released US documents revealed Høiby's mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, maintained extensive contact with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein between 2011 and 2014.

Her name appears at least 1,000 times in the documents released by the US Department of Justice on Friday, according to Norwegian media.

Mette-Marit apologised on Saturday, calling her contact with Epstein "simply embarrassing" and saying she showed "poor judgment". The palace confirmed she stayed at Epstein's Palm Beach residence for four days in 2013 and met him on several occasions, although she never visited his private island.

Mette-Marit married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001, bringing her son from a previous relationship into the Norwegian royal family. The crown prince is heir to the throne.
