All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

Well if if they succeed reviving the PC party, the basically seperates the right in three ways. Moderates with the PCs, separatist light with the UCP, and hard core separatist with the AB Republicans.

Must be a liberal thing.

Pancakes and politics. You can't swing a dead cat in Calgary during Stampede without hitting a politician (of any stripe) in a cowboy hat flipping pancakes. The bigger names will have their own events (how else will you raise funds); the lesser politics lights will be attending any church pancake breakfast or strip mall bbq that'll have em. Back years ago, Stephen Harper (I think he was Leader of Opposition at the time) showed up at the Stampede pancake do that was being held in the parking lot of the shopping center where I had my office. He was a crap pancake flipper.

He didn't rock the whole 'cowboy look' all that well either.

He was generally an awkward guy in almost all situations, except when he was talking about hockey. Didn't agree with his position on a lot of things, but respect that he stuck to his agenda and did what he said he was going to, so at least you knew what you were getting.

So far Carney is on the same path, but early days yet to make a judgement.

Yeah that really shocked me at the time. I figured since he spent so much time in Calgary, he knew better than to let someone from Ottawa dress him, or at least knew how to wear a hat.
PP had his moment wearing his cowboy hat backwards and drinking American beer.

All of it is theatre tbh.

I'm sure this will make those anti vax separatists happy..... AB is now has the most measles cases in all of North America, more then the entire united states. If only we had say an 8 billion dollar surplus laying around to help deal with this crisis......oh wait

Danielle Smith demands referendum to separate measles from Albertans

EDMONTON – As Alberta suffers its worst measles outbreak since the 1980s, Premier Danielle Smith has called on Albertans to demand a better deal from the airborne disease.

“As we all know, medical science has yet to find a way to prevent preventable diseases,” Smith told reporters. “But everyday Albertans have been frustrated by our relationship with the elitist measles in our bodies for far too long, and it’s time to let this Laurentian infection know how we feel.”

Smith then complained that other provinces have a better deal with measles simply because they’re more proactive in addressing the problem.

Many outbreaks appear to be centred around religious communities like the Mennonite and Amish. It was the cause in Texas and Ontario. As well, I believe many immigrants, legal and illegal, aren’t vaccinated or screened when they enter the country.

Screen? Yes, medical evaluation is part of the process

But do we demand they get vaccinated to our standards? As well, it only applies to those that come here legally.
Unfortunately a little thing called human rights comes in, I believe we cant force vaccination if they dont have it but it's strongly encouraged.

Anyway I doubt immigration is the issue, 28% of all immigrants in Alberta are from the Philippines which the measles vaccine is mandatory. The next highest groups are India, china, and the UK who all have childhood vaccination programs for measles.

89% of cases are from exposure in canada, and 87% are unvaccinated.

We could, if we chose, require proof of vaccination as a border control for any non-citizens or to be eligible for any period of work or study.

Wouldn't be against that at all. There are countries that require proof of having the yellow fever vaccination before they let anyone in, for example.

They could always be given a choice. Get vaccinated or go home.
