All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

agreed, but also remember the government could end this right now too, the options for petitions is A cabinet makes it gov policy or B referendum. They could essentially put this all to bed by adopting forever Canada as official gov position. However Smith will not do that.
They could make it formal government policy, yes, but a succesful referendum petition would still result in a subsequent referendum. The easy button right now is to just hold a referendum on the Forever Canadian petition. A win for that would show that the door is shut on separation at present, and while they would likely still go through the motion with their own petition and referendum, the population and business community would already have the necessary answer for clarity and a predictable business climate.

Obviously I don’t believe the UCP will actually do that. The very last thing they want to do on this is actually commit one way or the other.

Not only that but there is a 5 year wait between referendums of similar questions. So by voting on forever canada, there cannot be a separation referendum for 5 years. Thats lot of tine to kill the movement off

They’ll have no great trouble succeeding in their petition. The provincial government changes the rules to make it much easier, specifically for them. They will not prevail in the ultimate referendum, and it won’t even be close.
Finding 177k rural bumpkins? Notice anything about this crowd at a separation town hall?

I have no idea how social media algorithms work, but I have to believe there is external influence at work. My FB feed is full of pro-separatist posts and video clips. I click, comment or 'like' none of them, but they keep showing up.
