All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

I bow to your superior knowledge, sir.
Ew, don’t do that. Especially when I’m consciously not showing my work. I’m being very skittish commenting too specifically on a situation where at this point I’d be surprised if there were not a criminal investigation.

I’m just saying that I don’t share the concern about a lack of available potential offences. We’ll see if the Mounties or Edmonton or whomever end up finding something chargeable that crown’s willing to go with.

Interestingly enough I note the appearance of the usual suspects from the Convoy including Tamara Litch .
So much for there love of country which supposedly drove them to their actions.

I see , the old not guilty by reason of stupidity defence. Yeah, that usually goes over real well with judges .
I get the distinct impression that they're hoping Canada bribes them just to go away.
That might actually work better then an independent referendum.

Though predictable and expected, it definitely won’t go over well in separatist circles.

We can expect to see an uptick in rhetoric rejecting the validity or legitimacy of Canadian law and the established legal system, and I think we’ll also see
More pushing of a narrative of appealing to the Americans to ‘rescue the oppressed’ or some such nonsense.

The existence of the petition was a bit of a pressure relief valve. Striking it jams the lid back on already close to a boil. I donmt see a way this could have been avoided given the fact set and the clear illegality… But this will have consequences.

the pressure is not in alberta.

The pressure is in the UCP.

Smith knows that if the separatists leave the UCP, she loses half her supporters, half her caucus.

Her playing footsies with the separatists, and thus becoming a separatist by proxy, is about keeping the UCP as a cohesive unified party.

She knows if the separatists break off, the UCP and the separatists get demolished by the NDP.

Same calculus as the Bloc Quebecois. Before they left the PCs the PCs were much more competative.
