Is that a big deal ? Honest question...
To an extent. Almost every unit in that brigade is being tactically grouped now. And it looks like every armoured unit is paired off with an infantry one.Is that a big deal ? Honest question...
Don't know about the Ontario Regiment, though I don't believe they're particularly small. The QoR are, I believe, the largest reserve unit (definitely for the infantry, and I think overall). What is the ES of both units? If low that could be the reason for it. Another reason could be that this is a measure towards the creation of the CARBs
Lincoln & Welland, Lorne Scots, and Tor Scots are all in the west (well, plus Etobicoke). No armour unit out that way, if there's long term plans for combined arms groupings (and army res expansion) then maybe GGHG can get a troop setup in either a LSR or TSR Armoury to expand opportunities for armour recruitment to the western half of the GTA and better accommodate grouping efforts. I suggest them because I think they only have the one location currently? There aren't enough infantry units for 1 to 1, so putting multiple units that are geographically close to each other would make sense to me. I'm also off doing a separate Class B and not currently involved in regular unit/brigade activities so I have no idea what's actually happening, even rumour wise.To an extent. It sets some ground work for the CARB concept coming.
Not terrible big for the ONT R. But they are being moved from 33CBG to 32CBGDon't know about the Ontario Regiment, though I don't believe they're particularly small. The QoR are, I believe, the largest reserve unit (definitely for the infantry, and I think overall).
Tactical groupings are done. Go look at the latest Ares CO and RSM appointments CANFORGEN for a glimpse.Lincoln & Welland, Lorne Scots, and Tor Scots are all in the west (well, plus Etobicoke). No because the plan for the CARBs is that eventually every unit will have its own admin coy. Service battalions with provide 1st and 2nd line support to the brigade and the CARBsAre the Service Battalions involved at all in these tactical groupings? Would it make any sense to have support sub-units at some combat arms armouries?
So mini battlegroups with a C/S 8. Neat.No because the plan for the CARBs is that eventually every unit will have its own admin coy. Service battalions with provide 1st and 2nd line support to the brigade and the CARBs
Have you seen any info on sharepoint about this?Almost every CBG is implementing tactical grouping with its infantry and armoured units. As the army makes the transition from ad hoc battlegroup ops to divisional ops, it has been identified that the reserve units need to be capable of deploying formed sub-units and operating effectively. With most units current authorized establishments being in the ballpart of 180-230, even at full strength, a reserve unit can't consistently put a coy in the field. By grouping units, it takes their authorized establishments to close to their reg force counterparts. This will let units start training with a company in the field sooner, while DND, the MND and PMO begin the process of actually increasing the authorized strength of the army.
In town halls over the last month or so with both a CBG Comd and a Div Comd, they both said the vision is that reserve units will have the same authorized establishment as their reg force counterparts. They also said that being un-tactically grouped was tied to two key metrics, the first being able to reliably and consistently put a company+ in the field for exercises (ballpark 150 all ranks), and second, approaching the size of a reg force battalion.

Yeah our brigade commander gave us an ambitious growth goal thats not authorized yet but would see us about a brigade minus in total strength. Service battalions already have some of the largest authorized strength in the low 300s, seeing a increase would be beneficial in order to actually field what we need to support. I need to train 7 wpns techs over the next two years if we want to support growth of the cbg.Yes, lots of info, lots of discussions, lots of powerpoints. The bulk of what I said in my comment has come from the slide decks surrounding CAMO and the recent Infantry Advisory Boards, and some slide decks from the different CBG HQs as they figured out what to group.
What seems to be the biggest wild card for the top level discussions is if the CCA and CDS can convince the MND and PMO to actually increase the size of the army. All the documents and powerpoints talk about it, but there is nothing even hinting that the government is going to actually increase the legal size of the army yet.

Perfect. I can share my 1 TAPV and 6 golf carts amongst 450 dudes. We were flat out told that the goal is for the infantry units in the brigade to grow to 600, and the armoured ones to 450. No answer on what additional resources will be provided to assist that yet.
