British Columbia NDP Majority Government 2024-(no later than) 2029

<braces for first nations' naming cult backlash> ;)

Chinese-built vessels for B.C. Ferries will be named after trees

the first four new major vessels will be called the Summit Arbutus, Summit Cedar, Summit Maple and Summit Spruce.

Like the astonishignly ironically named 'Dam John Horgan' ;)

Site C dam naming met with disbelief in northeast B.C.

Name for dam met with negative and mild reactions following project's controversial legacy

Cynically it paints the party as having built something in the province despite historically being the party of not having any money for actually doing so. Even worse that in this case Horgan froze the project while initiating reviews that led to billions in cost overruns during a time that it was clearly too late to stop it. But then again this is the same party that didn't want a bridge over the Fraser in 2014 to replace the Masey Tunnel despite everything pointing at a bridge now being the only palpable solution.

Based on what I’ve been hearing, moderates will leave, i.e. Eby wins again.
Ugh. If ever the province of British Columbia needs a rational, reasonably moderate Conservative Party to simply focus hard on the brass tacks of provincial economics, it’s now.

Keith Baldrey's opinion is that she's the leader the NDP would most like to face off against (being the most "right" of the 5).

She'll get the 'faith vote' out, I'm sure:

Natural resources / pipeline: “Our natural resources are God-given resources. I didn’t put copper in the ground. He did. It’s there for us to use and give us prosperity. And we can do it in environmentally friendly and sustainable ways. But we cannot leave it where people invest all kinds of money and they wait years and years and years for some sort of approval to take the next step. . . . We need that pipeline, that Canadian pipeline.”

This is never a good look for a BC political leader... from last year, mainly about her husband who is a sitting MLA (she is not - speculation about him giving up his seat for her):

There was a time in Canadian politics when past racist, homophobic or sexist comments would have likely resulted in candidates being dropped or rejected by voters — especially in a riding as diverse as South Surrey, where 36 per cent of the population is a visible minority, according to the 2021 census. But with the rise of far-right rhetoric and a pushing of boundaries on acceptable speech, that’s no longer the case.

The Socreds put bible-thumper Willy Woodenshoes in charge and he didn’t last a full term.

It's just so sad that the 'rural religious fringe' tends to work it's way into positions of influence on the right in BC to the point where they alienate themselves from alot of potential support amongst the (highly diverse) BC electorate.

Vander Zalm is a good example of that in the fairly recent past.

A bit disappointed that they used The KLF as the celebratory song with out the dead pug and burning £1,000,000 on a remote island.
Also the band stands against when they stand for.

More on the new rallying cry...

Kerry-Lynne Findlay elected B.C. Conservative leader

She wrapped up her speech by borrowing a frequent refrain of U.S. conservative Christians, saying “Faith, family and freedom, that’s what it’s all about.”
