Well, I have tried to see if Wheeler will sell/make such, and I had a quick response from an employee saying 'sorry no', so I have now asked if they'll do a custom job, and I am awaitng an response. I asked 'Kristina' to pass this info up her chain of command for their consideration rather than leaving it at the base level of inquiry.

So maybe if anyone would be interested in this type of cam, we can make some headway into having it available in/on other PC gear products.

Also, if anyone else is seeking a desert CADPAT 64 Ptrn ruck (and acc's), lets get together on a group order, and prepay it, maybe saving some $$ for us, and giving Wheelers a break by having the $$ all up front to avoid anyone backing out or hassles.

Perhaps if they get more response for the desert stuff, amybe they'll give in. In the meantime, i am hoping they'll do a custom job, so if you are keen, come fill the que, as there is plenty of room.

Cheers,

Wes

I tried asking about some custom stuff from Wheelers and didn't really get an answer - I took it as a polite shove off so I took my business elsewhere.

Wes, if you are looking to get some CADPAT gear made, talk to Brian Kroon at Dropzone - I believe he posts here as "Dropzone".  The quality of his gear is always rated top notch and he appears ready to work with the crowd to put out the good product.

CADPAT AR might be hard, I hear there are real problems in trying to get it.

If things don't pan out thru Wheelers, I'll give Dropzone a go.

Cheers,

Wes

Keep me posted - I'm always eyeing up CADPAT gear.

Wilco, BTW we still use that here in our radio procedure.

Cheers,

WEs

I have been in contact with Wheelers about this venture, even asking for a custom or group buy. So far, its a no-go.

What I am asking if you are keen for this idea, how about emailing them and requesting them to get more material to make these. It just takes some man-power to undertake.

If they realise they have a demand for this, maybe they'll do something about it.

Cold beers,

Wes

The issue is not that no one in the industry wants to build what you want, it is that the C.F. will not release the small quantity of Arid Cadpat Cordura it has, to those of us that have approval to work with Cadpat fabrics.

It is simply a matter of lack of fabric.

Kind Regards

Brian Kroon

Brian, any chance of this changing in the future now that Afghanistan seems to be a long-term deal.

What is the availability of the Desert MARPAT?

It is not authentic Canadian, but is a very similar pattern.

I asked around a few of the bigger companies and Desert MARPAT is just as hard to find as CADPAT AR.  Looks like the same problem - most soldiers are heading to the Sandbox so military takes all the stuff coming off the line.

The last time I spoke to Wheelers, they said to keep the queries coming every month or so, to see if things have changed, but if more pers inquire, maybe they'll do something. She had told me they have some limited ARID material, but they are using that for name tags only.

So, lets hound 'em thil they cave in.

Cheers,

Wes

Name tags?  That's why I take my business to Dropzone.

We on the supply side are just as frustrated as you gents :'(, after all this is how we eat :o

I have communications with the fabric mills and /or DND DSS almost weekly. They are well aware of demand for the Arid colours. They just don't have it right now.

Currently I am selling Tan and MultiCam to Canadian troops overseas and those who will be deploying shortly.

As far as Marpat Cordura goes for load bearing kit, I haven't even got a whiff of it. I understand the Marines are using Coyote Brown and Coyote Tan for the most part. The last order I did for USMC use was in Olive  ??? but to be fair when they order they do not tell where the products will be used and I am smart enough not to ask.

Oddly enough one U.S. mill told be that the Marines were starting to use US Army  Universal Pattern (the official name for what many call ACU Pattern) simply because the fabric was on the "floor" for immediate delivery. This color would work well in Iraq. I have some Universal Pattern in stock and as soon as Foliage Green webbing arrives we will start to build our line in it as well.

Kind Regards
Brian Kroon

I got a question about all this high speed gear. Is it feasible? I mean will I be allowed to wear it in the field? I'm going regs now (ex reservist) and I am turning into a kit slut. I'm not going to bring any of the kit with me until I'm posted of course, but how strict are CO's on wearing say the drop zone stuff in the field. I wouldn't want to drop all that dough on a recce smock for example and not get to use it on exercise or deployment!

There is a time and a place for it, and you will figure out those boundaries when you get to your unit.  The CF seems to be gradually realizing that a "free market" environment for kit often results in better approaches to loadout.

1VP has a CO's directive that allows for aftermarket kit - as long as it is not neon or someother "wild" colour pattern.

I understand 3VP has an identical policy.

I agree Wheelers thinks they are the only one around. I would like others, ie DZ and WESClothing give wheelers a lil run. Thanks Brian. Give them hell.
