I can vouch for the cadpat "invisibility" under NVG. They are indeed quite hard to pick out and if anything, it is always the boots that are noticed first. As for the burning threads on combats, I say you do whatever is necessary to make yourself look sharp. The CFAO‘s say you may not iron your combats. However, if you go ahead and use whatever means necessary, including ironing, to make your combats look sharp, it will generally pay off. I have ironed my combats many times. Just don‘t be stupid and leave big sear marks on them.

Er, the reason that "they" say NOT to iron our uniforms is because of the IR capability is defeated once you iron it. (It might be an urban legend for all I know...)

To get wrinkles out, all you need to do is throw‘em in the dryer... either before you wear it or right after you wash it (and hang it up instead of folding it after coming out of the dryer)

The wearing of non DND kit, is up to the unit CO/RSM. Only on one of my tours could we wear or use non Cdn kit. In Somalia we used anything, went around with just T shirts, US Boonie hats etc. In 94/99 it was the other end, only Cdn kit. 96/98 tours a lil of both. 89 tour only Cdn.
Korus as for PeaceKeeper, just because they sell it in Canex does not mean the have the Patent. It is like Woods Co kit, they supply units with kit shop stuff, so we can wear it.

Too finish
A Sqn in Somalia had to wear the Blk beret. Until they burnt their faces off. In Petawawa, we in Recce Sqn wore mostly any kit. In A,B,HQ Sqns Cdn kit only. I used ether a 64 pat ruch or old 52 arctic pack. Wore a old 62 pat Cdn heavy poncho. Danners, flight gloves, old Winter 49 winter cap etc. When I went to RHQ, I was lucky to wear my Danners. I still used my old ruck though. Some units are Cdn kit only, some anything green. Back in the 80s, when General Foster and FSM Richie were in Pet. We could wear anything Green/Blk/Br.
Now Cdn only. Units are all different.

Our company, Wheeler Accessories Ltd. (also known as "Wheelers" or "Canadian Peacekeeper") is authorized by DND to purchase the patented CADPAT Cordura fabric and is licensed by DND to use this CADPAT to manufacture our Canadian Peacekeeper products.

Thanks, U learn something new. I know when Canpat came out, not even the Unit Mat Techs could get any Material. They were told it was patented and could not order any. Wheeler must have payed a good penny to get the use patent. Woods made our first Gortex fleece, after DND changed our kit shop could not buy any thing. That looked like Cdn kit.

Ive personally played some paintball with some CADPAT on and i can honestly say it was one of the best expieriences ive ever had in the game! Wearing goggles dosent help the other guys see you espically when your crouched down in the bushes i can tell you that right now!

I do have a question for anyone who can help me though...Does anyone know where i can get some of that CAMO that they drape over arty and armour? Sorry i cant be more specific
-thanks.. Hugo

You mean " Cam Net"?, try a local surplus dealer.

With misinformation like this, who needs counter-espionage???

- Yes, you still burn the threads off your cadpat combats, it prevents fraying, and provides a neat appearance.

- No, you do not iron combats. You were not supposed to iron the old combats either (though some did). You simply do not iron combats because you do not iron combats.

- Yes, there are legal ways to obtain cadpat kit. There are a variety of lisenced manufacturers and some unlisenced manufacturers producing said kit. This has been listed elsewhere, I will not list it again.

- Yes, you can legally obtain cadpat clothing... Frontenac produces cadpat combats, though they are not an exact copy of the issued combats, the material is real cadpat.

Now on to to oppinions...

I'm not a fan of the platypus that wheelers produced, though I've only ever worn one briefly... didn't sit very well on my back, was awkward to wear... my own camelbak thermobak is far better in my own oppinion, but your best bet is to borrow one of each and try them out.

I have the wheelers plat'. It doesnt sit verywell on my back.. or anyone in my platoon's back. It just isnt the best shaped item.. But if you are looking for a cadpat hydration pack you may look at the new one they have out...

I havnt seen one in person, but know someone who has it.. they say it rests pretty good

Wow, what's up with people ressurecting long-dead posts from many years ago? I don't like being reminded of my days as a naive googly-eyed recruit... :P

Why are cadets and paint-ballers wearing canadian miltary uniforms?!

As this is the Buy Sell and Trade forum and this is just turning into drivel.
