Newer platforms require fewer sailors, so win, win, win.Plus side: a tariffed South Korea may be willing to give better deals to DND to protect industrial capacity.
Trump is targeting Canada again. Will we see TACO again this time?

Trump announces 35% tariffs on Canada starting Aug. 1
U.S. President Donald Trump announced Thursday that starting Aug. 1, the U.S. will charge a 35 per cent tariff on Canadian products sent into the country.www.ctvnews.ca
This could be a carrot and stick approach by him as the current 'deadline' is for an agreement to be in placed by 21 July based on the G7 meetings/discussions.They really are just sending out the same copy of the same letter to every country, but just changing names and an arbitrary tariff %.
Update: I am seeing talk that CUSMA goods may be keeping their exemption, if true then this is just moreindeed.
More like he’s desperate to get something by that date. Apparently, there hasn’t been a line of countries beating down the White House door to make crappy deals with someone who has a history of reneging on deals. This could be a carrot and stick approach by him as the current 'deadline' is for an agreement to be in placed by 21 July based on the G7 meetings/discussions.
Turns out from what I've read this morning that our 'new' date for an agreement has been pushed back to 1 Aug. So this 'new' 35% tariff is his attempt to draw a red line under the 1 Aug date.More like he’s desperate to get something by that date. Except the pre-existing ones, like CUSMA, which he, the greatest negotiator of all time, negotiated.Up until then, there is NOTHING preventing Trump from ignoring the agreed upon agreement because its not become law in the US.
Lack of legal authority isn’t something he appears to feel particularly constrained by.Turns out from what I've read this morning that our 'new' date for an agreement has been pushed back to 1 Aug. So this 'new' 35% tariff is his attempt to draw a red line under the 1 Aug date.
What everyone seems to be forgetting is that NONE of these 'agreements' (such as the UK or Vietnam ones) are in fact law until Congress votes on them and it passes within Congress. Up until then, there is NOTHING preventing Trump from ignoring the agreed upon agreement because its not become law in the US.
Confirmed, didn't even make it to Tuesday.
CUSMA-compliant goods exempt from Trump's latest tariff threat on Canada
