CAN-USA Tariff Strife (split from various pol threads)

How does "house arrest in Alberta" translate into "at the US Ambassador's residence" in Ottawa?
In the eyes of the court she was probably there in the course of her employment with Rebel. Levant had an interview with Hoekstra on the grounds of the official residence yesterday.

The courts aren’t in the business of keeping people from maintaining gainful employment when they’re serving their sentence in the community.

Not a good look for an ambassador to be hosting someone who has been convicted for a role in an effort that posted an insurrectionist manifesto & who is now a separatist proponent. But I suppose it’s on brand for that administration.

The president of the united states is a convicted felon, so this is really not that big a deal.

Seems like both Trump AND Carney were right. U.S. gets half of all profits. Canada get debt repaid from revenues (before profit).

Win-win.

...so the original deal? But now with Trumps name on it?

Bro Guess GIF

The original deal didn’t specify split net-profit money to the Maroun family slush fund Economic Development Fund.
I remember SNC lavalin getting into trouble for running blatant corruption schemes in Libya to get deals done.

I hope the Canadian government doesn't face similiar scrutiny down the line.

And moving forward, same with ‘AtkinsRéalis.’ 👍🏼

Given that this was apparently negotiated by the Canadian government, I don’t think HMTK can get jammed up on charges under the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act.
