Basically 1,200 main battle tanks they now have.
Non-G7 nation
We struggle to have15 tanks run in Latvia because we can’t find spare parts.
G7 nation
But hey, at least we got Mark Carney now.

Pretty slick tank. The fact it has a built-in indirect fire mode is pretty quirky and I believe is unique in modern tank design. We should take 250 plus ARVs and AEVs. One can dream.

Further on the indirect mode:

"With lots of hills there are lots of little valleys for enemy tanks to hide in. When the K2 uses its suspension to “sit,” it can elevate its gun to a near mortar-like angle to indirectly fire a millimeter band radar-guided “top attack” round.

Once fired, the round deploys a parachute, selects a target and shoots a molten projectile into the thin top of an enemy vehicle. Germany and Israel have similar rounds, but only for artillery because their tank guns cannot reach the necessary elevation angle. Called the Korean Smart Top-Attack Munition, or “KSTAM,” it can reach out and touch someone eight kilometers away."

in 1989 Gates already had Leo 2s.
That's my recollection as well , I think they were using the 1A5s at the point to heavy up their recce units and there might have been platoons worth or maybe even a company .
But I watched a train sets worth of Leo 2 and Marders heading through a rail yard at roughly that time period.
I wish I knew what happened to my photos .
