Canada's tanks

another 180 K2 tanks for Poland
one of the few places to get them relatively quickly
Basically 1,200 main battle tanks they now have.
Non-G7 nation
We struggle to have15 tanks run in Latvia because we can’t find spare parts.
G7 nation
But hey, at least we got Mark Carney now.

Pretty slick tank. The fact it has a built-in indirect fire mode is pretty quirky and I believe is unique in modern tank design. We should take 250 plus ARVs and AEVs. One can dream.

Further on the indirect mode:

"With lots of hills there are lots of little valleys for enemy tanks to hide in. When the K2 uses its suspension to “sit,” it can elevate its gun to a near mortar-like angle to indirectly fire a millimeter band radar-guided “top attack” round.

Once fired, the round deploys a parachute, selects a target and shoots a molten projectile into the thin top of an enemy vehicle. Germany and Israel have similar rounds, but only for artillery because their tank guns cannot reach the necessary elevation angle. Called the Korean Smart Top-Attack Munition, or “KSTAM,” it can reach out and touch someone eight kilometers away."

in 1989 Gates already had Leo 2s.
That's my recollection as well , I think they were using the 1A5s at the point to heavy up their recce units and there might have been platoons worth or maybe even a company .
But I watched a train sets worth of Leo 2 and Marders heading through a rail yard at roughly that time period.
I wish I knew what happened to my photos .

Are we still a G7 nation though??

I mean sure, we tell ourselves we are. We tell others we are too. We even host the odd G7 conference from time to time.

But while our government has been intentionally shrinking & attacking the very industries that provide it with the money it needs to operate - I can't help but think there is a government out there that actually works to improve their respective country that must've surpassed us by now...

World's 9th largest GDP. China and India are larger but not included so that makes us 7 of 7 in the G7.

SADARM is/was the NATO equivalent, I don't think it was fielded to tanks outside of the US Army as it was range limited - the only difference is the pneumatic suspension on the K2 which gives more range for that type of attach than the M1 etc, and was out ranged by ATGMS. Search and Destroy Armor (SADARM) isn't the same as the precision Artillery systems in use (though there was a SADARM shell designed for Artillery), as it like the tank round wasn't as effective as things like CopperHead and Excaliber for Artillery, or the current generation of ATGM's
