Gents, why should our salaries be tax exempt while serving overseas? Not to say I like paying taxes but what makes the military unique to justify this expense. Moreover, considering what Spr Earl stated about UK soldiers having to serve over six months, this really wouldn‘t effect many CF members anyway.
As far as serving longer then six months in an operational theatre, considerable benefits kick into effect for CF members at the 9 month point in terms of extra HLTA benefits and lump sum payment for a bulk vacation. Plus your tax free benefits keep adding up.
The problem with generous benefit package is the cost has to come from somewhere. Although the CBC budget would be a good place to start...we know it would come from DNDs budget. Anyone what to give up more of their ammo for increased benefits?
Finally, in terms of benefits, members of the CF don‘t do too badly. On a recent mission to Africa, I was the envy of all other nations in terms of the support provided to me by my country. This included those from other "western" nations.
Cheers,
Gunner
