Continental Defence Corvette

My guess is that we see CSC scalled back in number or the timeline "stretched out" and we start cranking these out. The 3x AEGIS capable CSC get built and then we start pumping out these puppies with CSC slowly trickling in.
Hope not. 15 seems to be the baseline minimum. The CDC/light frigate reflects a change in overall defence posture.
This also doesn’t include any of the potential uncrewed combatants, something I gather Australia will lead with first.

My understanding it that things have been pushed back a bit, but are intended to move forward soon(ish).
Yah I don't know the timings on the project. I know that TRAPS was trialed by HDW on their circumnavigation voyage, and of course was also trialed on the MCDV's first.

Sea Tracker…Traps…Cobra. I wonder how much of the cost of those technologies is due to the amount of time some poor buggers have to spend thinking up cute names.

So if the AOPS have a containerized towed array / sonobuoy processing capability, who would prosecute the threat? Are AOPS going to be carrying ASW helicopters when needed?

Define the timeline of ‘when needed’

TRAPS was built for and trialled on the Kingston Class originally. AOPS just used it once in the Arctic. I don't think there is a serious move to deploy this in the future. As for Cyclone full certification is progressing at a snails pace.

Just because you detect a submarine doesn't mean its a threat.

Well yeah, obviously. But I mean is this something Canada would be considering employing in contexts where their may be a submarine threat where AOPS is working?

Obviously that’s super not ideal… But if a containerized capability is in service for use, I’m curious how that would integrate with the rest in the event that things go beyond simply collecting intelligence.

Is the towed component useful for route surveys and detailed charting?

Agree. Could be just passing through.

Although, showing my age but 55 years ago DASH could drop sonobouys and a torpedo and this was considered instead of ASROC for the IRE’s. We can’t be far away from going down that path but there’s no place to store a weapon like that on AOPS, and nobody to load and maintain it.

Just so I understand...the original intention was that the AOPS would have a hanger to support operation of a Cyclone but there was no consideration of being able to arm the embarked Cyclone?

Yes because as envisioned the cyclone would be used to do other tasks not including ASW. In fact in the early days a MOU was signed with the CCG to have their helos switch with the Cyclone in the Arctic with the CCG helo operating on AOPS and the Cyclone helping the CG ferry supplies as the carrying capacity was larger.

I know now its in discussion of what it would look like with CCG onboard AOPS with their helos and people are having those discussions.
