The Strats are based in Namao. All of their tanks are also located there. You will be posted to the base. Most training will take place in Wainwrightwhich is 2 hours west.

OK Slim, reorientate your map. If you are facing Calgary, all the words should be upsidedown (If you were to be in Edmonton) (If you are a Gagetown Strat (Ptoohee) than get a bigger map :D ). You‘ve got him headed out to Hinton.

LOL

Well, he didn‘t say west of what....

Thanks for all the responses guys. I handed in my paperwork tonight...

Let the paper trail and waiting begin...

The troops will break you in nicely...real gently on your phase 3 & 4 at the school, making sure you get tucked in on the back deck after a hard day in the hot seat...

Right Bzzzlightyear, Slim, George.......?

Say hi to Norm for me...everyone meets Norm on phase

Good luck, all kidding aside!

yep Lepine, i was in the Calgary Highlanders, and did SQ course with you, actually. And i remember giving you a ride home from supply when i was handing in my kit and you got your DEU‘s.

Oh, and for the love of god, don‘t tell the highlanders i‘m armoured, they‘ll lynch me if I go back to visit.

ATTENTION ALL HIGHLANDERS......

KOSSTRO IS GOING ARMOURED OFFICER!!!

Welcome to the Corps man...burnt that bridge good :D

Regards

Arrrrggghhh!!! That‘s it Franko, i‘m going straight to RCDs to become your troop commander just to valiantly lead us into the deepest, most remote swamp in Gagetown i can find, and all the while pretending to know EXACTLY where i am, and will disregard at all costs any advice from the troop warrant or anyone else that knows what they‘re doing...

Anyway, so far i‘m only armoured on paper(21U), and have been actively trying to switch to infantry, which is quite likely given some of the fat, useless people here who are going to fail phase 3 infantry(65% failure rate)

I‘m actually in a huge dilemma as to what trade i want to do, the same thing happened in the reserves, i only picked infantry cause my friend did. I‘m just using this forum to find info about armoured, which i‘ll admit i know nothing about, whereas i know what‘s going on in infantry, thus my questions asked.

So, any good reasons why i should be in armoured?

PS, as you can imagine, the troops and my old sergeants were less than thrilled when i told them i was going reg force officer, they gave me quite the heckling, i can just imagine what would have happened if I told them i was armoured...

Greetings everyone - my first post here and just wanted to get a couple of things out of the way.

I have lurked on many message boards and such but have never been so impressed with the level of civility and professionalism exhibited by all who post. I don‘t usually join message boards but felt welcome here from the get go.

I am currently trying to get my ducks in a row so as to hand in my application by the end of the month... just waiting on transcripts.

As to a good reason why one should be in armour one of the big attractions for me to join the armour corp is the regimental histories of the respective regiments. I‘d very much like to be a part of that.

Plus, having driven truck for awhile, it‘d be alot more fun to drive a leopard than a five ton stuck in traffic.

Having said all that - I notice everywhere that people are talking about a backlog of recruits or not enough instructors to teach courses etc etc - does anyone know, ballpark, how long a wait it is between heading off to BMQ and being posted to a regiment? I have a wife and two children so this is important info for me.

Thank-you all and look forward to various forms of witty repartee.

It depends on what trade you are going into. I don‘t believe any of the Cbt Arms trades have any backlogs holding up recruit training. Those are found mainly in the REMF trades down in Borden. Give the Recruiters your questions and hopefully they are doing their jobs and can give you the answers you need. After a few years of service, you will be able to tell if they gave you good advice or not. :D

I was quite keen to go in as a traffic tech because my background is in transportation with a couple of years in aviation but my wife pointed out that I would hardly be satisfied to going back to chucking bags for a living.

I was encouraged to take a look at the military by a co-worker who was a supply tech for twenty-two years. I had applied to join the navy when I was twenty but was given an opportunity to go study down in the states which I couldn‘t pass up.

Anyhow, my co-worker suggested I take another look and, yeah, I was initially interested in traffic tech but, in addition to my wife‘s point, the wait to get my trades training in Borden just seems far far too long for something that I already know how to do.

I started looking at other trades and researching the combat arms. I am particularily interested in going armoured.

I want to do something that I will be proud of and my children will be proud of and I think it would be a blast to be riding shotgun in a Coyote or watching a Leopard blow apart a target.

What would a typical career as a non-commissioned member be like in armour? What are the differences between the three regiments? Does one get to choose what AFV one works with? When you are posted to a regiment are you assigned to a crew and vehicle that you ride with for the next three years?

The recruiters here in Edmonton have, with one exception, been great. They are informative and helpful.

So, yeah, anyone‘s thoughts on their experiences in the Armoured Corp would be appreciated. My father was a Royal Engineer in the British Army and is not impressed with my choice - so some encouragement and good stories to throw back his way would be appreciated.
