Alrighty then, my son is 13 (well in March he will be). Not everyone is accepted into the military for many different reasons, medical or for other reasons.

If you are already thinking about being in the Military one day...I suggest that you join a cadet corps in your area. This is not the same as being in the Military, but you will learn discipline, citizenship, teamwork and many other skills to help you suceed in life.

My maternal instincts also must advise you to stay in School and do your very best. Get your homework done, study hard...and keep up your grades. Then join as an Officer.

Don't think you are dumb just because you are relatively young.  If you act as a reasonable and responsible person, you will be treated as such (except by your parents, it is their job to always treat you as a kid :P)

facemesser,

Thirteen is not too young to start developing an appreciation and understanding of the value of a good grasp of language. Both the spoken and written word are used every day by service members in the conduct of their jobs, and poor language skills can cause one to fail career development courses and result in a lack of advancement in rank over time compared to peers.

As you take the time to read the forums, especially in the Recruiting section, you will see multiple threads encouraging young men and women to stay in school, and to work at it too. Whether you decide to join the Reserves or the Regular force, either as an officer or as a soldier (or sailor or airman), good performance in school will help you when you take the Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) and in preparing good learning skills for later training.

If you are thinking that the Army is a way to get away from school, you need to reconsider that very carefully. Every soldier will spend more time in class than on weapons ranges in his first year, and most years after that too, and you can as easily fail a military course because your written test results do not meet the standard as you can for poor weapon drills.

Take your time, and read through the areas of the forums that interest you, you’ll find that a lot of the things you may think to ask about have already been discussed in detail.  Then, if you spend some time following current threads you’ll get an idea of the style and tone of the posting members, and then know better where you can fit in.

Take care

Mike

Definitely check out the Cadet Sub-Board, see all the great things Cadets has to offer for youth.

If you want more info, find your nearest Cadet Corps, and check it out.

thank you for the help you have gave me i can't join the cadets because my parents won't let me  :(

facemesser,

Once again, go read the Recruiting FAQ's. It'll tell you what all your options are.
