Jews outside and inside Israel have wildly differing opinions. Hamas actions on Oct 7th, actually targeted communities that most wanted to find a solution with the Palestinians, effectively killing off much of the desire to find a solution. People forget that the support for the Palestinians in the Arab world is a mile wide and inch deep.
I’ve seen quite a bit of video this evening of Iranian ballistic missile attacks with cluster warheads into Israeli. Israeli ambulance services have confirmed two dead today at one scene. Iran seems to certainly still have some dry powder… They’re not out of the fight yet.
I’ve not seen much today about strikes elsewhere in the Gulf; some of the Gulf states have been leaning in pretty hard on censorship of information about strikes, but maybe there just haven’t been many?
Not sure if you guys saw this but (yesterday?) an Iranian aligned militia flew an FOV drone seemingly unhindered through the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad. The embassy has taken one or more additional hits since… It’s C-RAM system is definitely getting a workout. I fear that if they can fly FPV drones right into the compound low and slow, those higher end defensive systems may be pretty vulnerable to getting picked off once the FPVs are laden with explosives.

Iran appears to be exercising traffic control over the Strait, with some permitted vessels taking a routing through that brings them in close through Iranian waters.
While WTI and Brent Crude are holding steady around $100 a barrel, many Asian markets are seeing major spikes in prices for actual oil delivery; they get much of theirs from the conflict zone. It’s having real economic impacts. Most of the oil commodity prices we see quoted reflect paper trading such as futures. Actual physical delivery costs of Omani crude as one example are now north of $150/bbl.

There are lots of other economic sectors getting hit hard by this, only a few of which I’ve had time or brain cells to read up on. Apparently fertilizer is one to watch; a significant portion of the world’s urea apparently flows through the strait. A jump in fertilizer costs will be a real ‘oh shit’ for many.

I knew I liked this guy!Here’s Kent’s resignation letter.
A government official that actually understands the significance of his position & clearly doesn't take it for granted.
He did what I believe his late wife would have wanted him to do. And as a father, he took a stand for every parent out there that has a child in the military
(They aren't children...bah...you know what I mean!)
That letter was clear, concise, professional, and stated his reasons without being a jerk.
And as a guy significantly closer to current events (being the Director of the Counterterrorism Center) I'm going to go with what he says in his letter.
Which is exactly what most of us here agree on - that Israel dragged America into fighting another one of it's wars, the well being of America be damned...
(Actually, weakening America actually is beneficial to the Israeli long term plans)

Don't think that's an accurate take. Marco Rubio basically admitted that Israel dragged them into this. And now we have the Arabs (and other sources) basically saying that Kushner and Witkoff convinced Trump to do this. I don't think it's so much "the Joos" as Netanyahu working through Kushner. The biggest beneficiary of this war may well be Bibi personally.

This. Netanyahu doesn’t represent 100% of Israelis, the same way Trump doesn’t represent 100% of Americans. But contemporary responses to events from others affected can use inclusive terms that can imply wider causal association, eg. many blame ‘America’ for deleterious impact to their own lives through actions of the current administration, even though ‘Trumps and his senior cabinet’ may be more accurate. I think Kent was using ‘Israel’ the same way, not the Israeli people, but the Administration and implying Netanyahu in particular.

It's weird to pull the morality card considering some of his past controversies:
-pressuring analysts to modify intelligence assessments (including Venezuela
-allegations centered on aligning intelligence with political narratives
-links to and associations with individuals tied to extremist or far right groups
-2020 election was stolen and January 6 defendants are political prisoners narratives
The “morality card” he is playing is still consistent with core MAGA thinking. He, like a few others in that group, are just not being hypocrites about the position they’ve always held. No new wars, wasted blood and treasure, america first, blah blah blah.
No way he should be held in any sort of esteem for his decision by either side, but it highlights the divided position that MAGA is now in given some of what they thought they were getting with Trump is not what they are actually getting.
Two camps forming. One that sees a betrayal of MAGA promises and the other where Trump can never be wrong, original world views be damned.
The war with Iran is seeing some of Trump’s most loyal types question their loyalty. No different than what we are seeing with the Epstein files.
On the latest Iran thing, it seems that we have yet another shift from POTUS as he seems to come up with stuff on the fly.
Looks like he’s trying to find an off-ramp.

And fuel isn't the only worry. Not enough people are talking about the fertilizer shortage right before planting season. For North American farmers that's maybe a 30% hit in costs. But for the developing world we're risking actual famine in some places as food production tanks. Just look at what happened in Sri Lanka few years ago when they cut fertilizer imports because of Balance of Payments issues. We're now taking that global.
