I just took a glance at the Conference website and it seems pretty overt (at least to me) about its hatred of the West and bringing the caliphate to fruition. I’m surprised that the federal and provincial governments are allowing it.

They have been saying it for decades. Abu Nidal, UBL, The Taliban, etc etc

Our GoC and others are spineless and emasculated by all the bullshit "islamophobia" hype since 2001.

Come to think of it, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised that they’re allowed to spew such venom and possibly recruit future terrorists in our own backyard. I’m sure that if a similar Christian conference were to be held here on on how to triumph over Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism, the government would ban it very quickly.

This whole thing occurring here kind of reminds me of something Lenin once said: “The Capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.”

There is going to be a lot of bad people in the same small place. Opportunity ? Lots of overtime for LEOs coming up ?

Nothing tells our major allies and 5 Eyes partners we take this stuff seriously than allowing a group widely designated as a terrorist group to host a conference on our soil...

... but I'd be surprised if the other four eyes aren't eying the group and its activities up on an ongoing basis. Also, non-Eye Germany banned the group in 2003 - that specific ban's also survived a court challenge.

And to have the subject be "the defeat of non-Muslim countries" is just icing on the cake

I'm hoping that CSIS & RCMP have coordinated with other 5 Eyes nations, and we are allowing this conference to happen due to the valuable and actionable intelligence it will yield.

It may simply be that the intelligence and evidence does not support a terrorist entity listing under our law. I don’t know enough about them to say, but the ideological/political component is only part of the criteria under s. 83.05; the actual terrorist activity component has to be present too.

This determination can be made using all source intelligence, so if there’s a lack of a listing it’s not a matter of the usual intelligence to evidence dilemma.
