Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

Peraonally it wouldn't bother me if she only spoke French or English but I don't see the role as useful either.

What makes you fine with her speaking Inuktitut and not French? Guessing it's to do with the herritage/historical angle?

We could see a GG speaking just french and Tse’khene.

I wouldn't be against having GG's that only speaks 1 official language + at least 1 first nations language as an alternative to knowing both French and English. In fact I think that's a fantastic idea, as a mostly English speaker. It would really open up the pool of future GG candidates.

It is after all, a mostly ceremonial position.

That seems like a great idea.

Could even regulate the role of GG to being primarily a First Nations role and they can go around telling everyone about reconciliation.

Crickets on the PBO report? Or is is just an undeniable black mark against the PM MC and his version of the Liberals?
Usually by now, one of you Liberal cheerleaders is on here explaining away how it is not that bad or this report is just incorrect or being "misinterpreted".

We're waiting for facts, not projections.

Also, stop projecting.

Sure you are. When you see the Tornado is coming, don't decide to wait until it flattens your house to believe its a tornado.
No I mean literally. There's so much other shit going on right now (did you see highlights from the Hesgeth/Trump shit show today?) that I don't have time to worry about preliminary reports. I'll comment when I have a chance to look at the actual budget.

Fair enough

Pretty typical of a Canadian these days, too concerned with what's happening down south. Trump living rent free in the minds of Canadians while Carney and company quietly destroys this country.

The OAS stuff belongs here as much (or more) than the 2%+ thread.

I'll freely admit it @ArmyRick. I feel an intense apathy towards the current federal budget. As long as no political party is willing to step on the 3rd rail that is Transfers to Persons pretty much all budgetary talk is ideologically driven arguments about who's going to arrange the Titanic's deck chairs the best. A simple sensitivity analysis on PBO assumptions (like GDP Growth) creates almost as much variability in the key ratios as all the spending crisis being argued about.

And no party is going to be willing to do it without a firm majority and/or bipartisan consensus.

OAS = To confirm Old Age Security benefit? If it is, this affects my father but not my mother and step father. I only know a little about it (Who is and at what age is entitled)

we've been getting told liberals have been destroying this country ever since Pierre took over the CPC, yet here we are, still here, the country hasn't collapsed magically, the economy is doing okay given the trade war with the US. Everyone loves to throw shade at the feds for everything, even things that are provincial responsibility. The PBO projections are just that, projections based on the current course, the federal budget will be the document on how we change that course. We can use three word slogans all day long but at the end of the day the country isnt broken, falling apart, or being destroyed from the inside by the federal government, thats just partisan attacks that aren't helpful, but i wouldn't expect anything less from the communications team of the CPC who came from Canada proud.

Tornados are artificially created by Liberal weather machines to push their climate change lies. The tornado would never hit Liberal houses because their premium membership comes with a tornado fob🙃

I've been thinking, I'm certainty guilty of using loaded labeling and us vs them language myself. Trudeau and his inner circle also did this to the detriment of our political decorum.

It might be beneficial for the politics forum if we collectively rise above.

Correct. Great primer to read on the topic

Relatively simple and low impact change with major (almost panacea level) budgetary benefits- but no one will touch it because votes.

His commitment to not touch personal transfers is by far Carney's biggest fiscal failing thus far.
His refusal to call Carney on the above and instead focus on nattering about comparatively trivial shit is Poilievre's.

No, we have said since six months after Trudeau took office.

We are ish, that deficit is F-ing sky high and ridiculous. Why are still sending money to gender farming in Africa as one of many examples of sheer waste (Yup, lots of wasteful money, its a huge list)
The PBO projections are just that, projections based on the current course, t
The previous PBO, Yves Gerioux was pretty accurate. Its called heed the warning
We can use three word slogans
Like "Build Canada Strong" and "Build, Baby, Build"? Carney does them too, don't bother shitting on slogans, ALL parties do it.
being destroyed from the inside by the federal government,
Yeah, absolutely because all of the CPC, NDP and the Bloc policies put into place....oh wait, who has been in charge for ten years? Seek and accept responsibility. Ten years, enough is enough.
i wouldn't expect anything less from the communications team of the CPC who came from Canada proud.
And you can prove this? Or just more made up nonsense?

Thank you, I will take the time to read up on more of this.

Jeff Ballingal (Ontario Proud & Canada Proud) also has Mobilize Media, a company that was reportedly hired to support Poilievre's leadership bid- unknown if the relationship continued formally beyond that
Ezra Levant (Rebel News) was (one of) Poilievre's mentors in Calgary
Andrew Laughton (True North) - granted access to write Poilievre's biography, gifted moderate Karen Vecchio's secure riding after she was pushed out

It doesn't take much dot connecting to see why the "You wont BELIEVE what SNEAKY Mark Carney is up to! CLICK for MORE OUTRAGE" social media/shareables wing of right wing media is in complete lockstep in broadcasting the party line compared to others like Paul Wells, Ken Boessenkool, Sean Speer, John Ivison, Gurney and Gherson @ the Line, etc. One group is conservative commentary. The other is an unofficial extension of the (current) CPC infomachine.

That was a good read, thanks for posting it.

Helps to understand the impact of policy changes (even minor ones) - but like you said, nobody will touch this issue because nobody wants to be the 'bad guy' for reducing senior's benefits. (Even if it just means reducing them to what they were a year ago)
