Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

As far as I'm aware, no Chinese owned EV car company has had a vehicle approved by Transport Canada for sale in Canada as of now.
EV vehicles owned by US/European companies that are assembled in China have been approved by Transport Canada.
Until BYD/Chery vehicles meet Canadian safety standards they won't be sold here or assembled here. Also, their following Canadian labour laws/wage standards will be pretty much negate the vast majority of the potential 'cost savings' that consumers here think may occur. The average auto-assembly wage in Ontario is 44$/hr plus pension contributions, in China its 4$/hr.
I guess that's about to change.

And we are not the only ones.

The commission had imposed tariffs ranging from 7.8% to 35.3% on Chinese EV imports in October 2024 to counter what it called unfair subsidies. Beijing has since pushed for minimum prices to replace tariffs.

The move signals the EU’s shift toward cooperation as Chinese exports increase despite Western tariffs. Beijing, which approached the World Trade Organization over the duties in November 2024, now sees an opening.

The strategy to set price floors is “more practical, targeted and consistent with WTO rules,” China’s commerce ministry said on January 12. In November 2024, China had approached the World Trade Organization over the duties imposed.

The EU’s softer stance offers relief not only to Chinese carmakers like BYD, Xpeng, and Nio, but also for the likes of German brands BMW and Volkswagen, which have a large production capacity in China. Volkswagen made the first “meaningful offer” on a price undertaking in December, European commission spokesperson Olof Gill told The New York Times.
The strategic brilliance of Trump and the Americans who voted for him are pushing the world toward lawful evil over chaotic evil.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney said that the electric vehicle deal with China is an “opportunity” for Ontario and autoworkers, despite criticism from Premier Doug Ford and the union representing Canadian autoworkers.

Speaking in Doha, Carney said there is interest in Chinese companies producing “affordable” electric vehicles in Canada.
I swear, this seems somehow very familiar...

Again, if this is the US stance, call China, repurpose Ford, GM auto assembly plants, and build BYD cars here.

Chaotic neutral is more fitting.
Yes, the USA is trying to chaotically neutrally take over Greenland...

Wait, that sounds stupid.

Chaotic evil works fine, but thank you for your input.

If only there was a 1951 treaty that allowed the US to put whatever forces they wanted into Greenland....

Article II.

In order that the Government of the United States of America as a party to the North Atlantic Treaty may assist the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark by establishing and/or operating such defense areas as the two Governments, on the basis of NATO defense plans, may from time to time agree to be necessary for the development of the defense of Greenland and the rest of the North Atlantic Treaty area, and which the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark is unable to establish and operate singlehanded,

All of this is next level ridiculous, and there is no defending it.

Some will try.

You say this as if it's a new thing. The US has wanted to acquire Greenland for a hundred years. Not new. They will make offers but they won't invade.

Trump is more bombastic and outrageous about trying to achieve this than earlier attempts - because it is Trump. The responses are equally ridiculous (sending troops, we'll fight the US!). A bunch of children all of them.

Yes, threatening tariffs and escalation to take over Greenland is TOTALLY normal.

Oh wait...no it's not.

Chaotic evil. Moving right the F on

With all of this turmoil, threats and BS, somebody’s getting rich and when it’s done they will get a pass on the BS. Those people, as always, are the Fortunate Sons.
There’s no New World Order- it’s the same old bullshit wrapped in a different package.

The meek will not inherit the rare earth, but the odd combination of the stupid stooges and the filthy rich just might.

I mean you're kinda agreeing with QV here...

He said it was outrageous, and you seem to be in agreement?

It's kinda hard to suggest he's trolling AND THEN write a post more or less in agreement with his points...I'm confused...

What does Europe dropping tariffs on Chinese EV's have anything to do with Trump??

What does China approaching the WTO about accessing European markets have anything to do with Trump??

QV is trying to normalize this.

"Oh, the USA has tried to acquire Greenland for a long time, this is normal"

No, it's not. The US has tried to acquire Greenland, and then when politely told that the Danes and Greenlanders were not interested, moved on.

Trump is escalating, which is NOT normal and not trolling.

Trolling is saying, man, Greenland would look good with the stars and stripes. Trolling is not, give me Greenland or else I'll take it, or I'll move to cripple your economy if you resist. That's coercion.

That all said, coming from a rapist, I'm not surprised he doesn't know how to take no for an answer.

Because when faced with America engaging in a global trade conflict and trying to take over a NATO ally, China suddenly seems a lot more desirable to do business with.

Yes, Trump will push much harder than past presidents. I suppose this is still surprising to those who spout TACO.

It's going to be long stressful three years for some folks.

BEIJING/SINGAPORE- A Chinese importer bought one Panamax cargo of about 60,000 metric tons of Canadian canola shortly after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to Beijing last week, two traders with direct knowledge of the deal told Reuters on Monday.

The cargo, the first since China halted imports in October, is expected to be shipped after March, according to the traders.
Carney goes to Washington 3 times, nothing.

Carney goes to Beijing, a few days later, already seeing results.

Thanks America.

It may only feel familiar due to retroactively projecting patterns that weren’t actually there at the time.
I say go to China, drop tariffs, sell canola and build Chinese electric cars here.

Carney goes to China, drops tariffs, sells canola, and is talking about building Chinese electric cars here.

Hmmmmm

I need a pocket chart or something to track when Trump should be taken at his word and when he is just 'being Trump'. It seems to be a moving target.
