Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

it was also the fact that while doing that, the various CPC attack dogs started attacking Carney for not having his family in pictures, and then attacking his family directly.
I recall laughing about his "every day Canadian, just like you" pictures where he's wearing $2000 shoes on a rink. I don't remember seeing his family, what pictures were those?

There was a bunch of then in the CPC election platform document, I'd say about a third of the pages. Plus some other adds, especially during the holidays and Halloween

Okay. CPC staff were making fun of his family? I see a few stories of Twitter trolls pointing out his kid is non-binary, I don't aee anything from the party.

I’m with Burke, in that when I vote for an MP to act on their judgment and their conscience, and if I don’t like their conscience and their judgement, I can vote them out in the next election.

Of course, if there’s illegal activity or heinous corruption, then they should be forced to step down.

I'm the same way. I even started to work on my CPC candidate's campaign the election before last. That experience soured me towards her and the party and had me spoiling my ballot since because there was no viable option in this riding.

Did she win?

Did she win?
Unfortunately in this riding CPC always wins. . . . by a lot.

Her predecessor had made it a strong riding since 2006 because he was quite good. That said, the riding was formed in 1997 and was Liberal until 2006 so there is hope for a real election some day where issues actually matter.

🍻

I'm not anti-Carney, I'm just pointing out the level of partisan silliness I see on here directed at Poilievre.

Poilievre delivered the best national numbers for the CPC since the 80s, despite the LPC taking essentially the entire CPC policy after parachuting in a celebrity(of sorts) leader after having very publicly pushed-out the leader that was disliked/despised. That's hardly a rejection of the CPC, even if Poilievre's own riding didn't re-elect him.

As for the falling numbers, it makes sense. The world is in turmoil, so people are clinging to what they know is working. That was also a factor in the LPC retaining a minority. There is also the reality that the CPC is too closely associated with Alberta separatism, which is not a failing of Poilievre's making.

Carney is so far an effective PM, and has reigned-in the crazies in the LPC. He is essentially a more bold, and slightly red tinted Harper. I'd be quite happy to see him continue as PM with a minority, so that he is forced to keep a lid on the LPC crazy. With a majority, he might be inclined to let the lunatics free again, to save his own neck from internal politics.
I'm extremely leary of believing the falling numbers, personally. It's safe to call me a skeptic.

For all of these MP's to be crossing the floor to the LPC has me thinking there are some shady back room talks happening to entice them to cross the floor...

Money? Promises of a prominent position? Or is Carney just that swell of a boss that people can't help themselves?

Because in a representative Parliamentary Democracy we don't vote for a party. We vote for a Member of Parliament.
That's literally the entire point of the by-election. People would vote for their MP to continue representing them after a major change, because whether we like it or not, the party system is a major element of our democracy.

In several of these floor crossings, the member has gone from criticizing the government one day to joining it the next day. That's a huge turnaround, and voters should get a say.

And traditionally, cabinet ministers would resign and stand for by-election upon appointment to cabinet, so this concept isn't totally unprecedented.

In an real sense all that has changed for these MP's is where they are sitting in the House. Expressions of criticism or support for a Party are frankly pure theatrics. What specific Bill or Motion in the House have these MPs voted for or against that are contrary to their role of representing the people of their riding....ALL the people of their riding, not just the ones that voted for them?

Now if you want to talk about the problem of Party Discipline (again another artificial construct that we have imposed on the Parliamentary system) and the factors that encourage it, then that is another whole issue that I'd be happy to get rid of.

Canada Expands Citizenship By Descent—You May Already Qualify

If your parent, grandparent, or even great-grandparent was born in Canada, you may already qualify for Canadian citizenship under new reforms.

Hmmmm....

'it wasn't just one thing'

By crossing the floor to the Liberals and helping them toward getting a majority she will be in a much better place to ensure public servants are forced to take much-needed indigenous awareness training from the sole-sourced company she incidentally stands to benefit from monetarily.

In the famous words of Bob Peck in Jurassic Park; clever girl

What I really don't get is the people that are rubbing their hands with glee at the thought of the impending failure of the Carney government.

I voted Conservative in the election. But the last thing I want is for the sitting government (of whatever party) to fail the people of Canada.

So many people looking at the trade announcements and MOU's being announced are saying things like "yeah, but those are just announcements...nothing will actually come from them then Canadians will turn on Carney and then we'll beat him".

It's like they'd rather see the country suffer rather than see their political opponent succeed. Demonstrates the sad state of political discourse these days.

I think you are under estimating the amount damage of and depth of polarization the LPC has done to this country. I also think we underestimate how many people are hold their noses and voting for or throwing their weight behind Carney.

I think this fall you will see the US Gov start to reshape. And I think you will see the end of the beginning of this Canadian Gov.

People will be expecting results from Technocrat Daddy soon.
