Parliament isn’t required to weigh in on diplomacy save to the extend of passing any legislation that may be necessary to give effect to a treaty- but putting it to Parliament will take some of the wind out of the criticism.Gonna be a busy session.

Absolutely. When Germany and Japan came asking for LNG, I was all for that as an example, however the LPC didn't believe there was a business case then.
I'm interested in the fine print regarding any kind of association with the EU. Full member countries lose some controls... what will that entail for "associates"?
I note CETA already exists and remains provisional after 9 years... so the EU hasn't fully supported that free trade agreement yet.... what new concessions will Canada need to make to be an associate member? Will that include being a party to the EU's Migration Pact? I mention that one as I think it will be a particular wrinkle with our closest neighbor and our shared porous border.

If the project to expand Churchill for 80-90$ billion was funded by say the Sovereign Fund of Norway and the CPPIB to have multiple rail lines, all weather road, expanded port facilities for shipping potash, pulse and grain exports and critical minerals, a floating LNG terminal and a 1m+ bpd oil pipeline/port, with sufficient ice breaking for 12 month shipping, I wonder if the 37% approval for Canada to join the EU in Alberta/Sask/MB would climb to levels seen in QC and BC?

Exactly. We need flesh on the bones to determine whether this is going to be a good relationship for us, as opposed to condemning it as either a 'sell out' or full membership right from the first media story.
Either way, it is up to us to determine the length and breadth of our international relationships, not the US.

It just caters to bog standard hate America Canadianism. It feeds biases is all. And Trump has simply given the green light for that the to be very publicly displayed.
Anyways I just wish Canada would realize we have no friends only interests and stop trying to run from the bosom of one greater empire to the other.
But geographically and culturally were just northern Wisconsinites, Mainers and Oregonians.

Let’s be frank here.
If Trump had gone bat shit crazy on only the rest of the world regarding trade/tariffs and left Mexico and Canada alone, because after all he negotiated the best trade deal that the world has ever seen only 5yrs earlier, none of this would be happening.
PP would have won the election with a majority government.
He would have scrapped the Carbon tax, just like Carney has done. He’d be trying to get off the ground a new pipeline down to the Americans and maybe, maybe another one to the WC like Carney is trying. There would be zero movement on breaking down inter-provincial trade barriers. We won’t have a new FTA with the UAE, Indonesia and about to have one with India. We would not have SAFE but would have 88 F35’s signed off on. We won’t be joining the UK Expeditionary Force. Would not have Observer status with GCAP, no Gobaleye. A million other possibilities are out there.
Nothing on the go with the EU.
It all comes down to Trump deciding to burn down the entire Western world on trade, tariffs, alliances, everything. If he had left us alone, we wouldn’t be doing 85% of what we are doing.
