Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

If I was PP I wouldn't want an election right now either.

1) Time is not on PMMC or the LPCs side. And election with a landside victory for the LPC give them more of it. So PP needs to prolong this Gov.

2) He knows he's a cooked chicken if (when) he looses an election called with the current polling.
He really needs to figure out a message to sell to Canadians, not just the social Conservative base. To me it looks like he is floundering, Carney has ripped the carpet out from under him on most the common sense stuff, leaving him with only the social Conservative stuff, which doesn't sell well for most the country.

His best hope is for a resurgence of the NDP as the Liberals more more to the right, but they are so fractured it will likely be a election or two before they sort themselves out (if they even do).

He was the perfect counter to a PMJT. He did what he meant to do. Now he needs to get out of the way.

He knows if he loses another election he’s done. There’s a real likelihood election now or soon would cement an LPC majority, and not by a seat or two.
Wonder if the Liberals try for the month of May for an election.

There is this little thing called rights which gets in the way of what your describing.

I'm aware of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

When I said politically ugly, I meant that any serious enforcement action taken will cause mass protest, civil disorder, violence and probably death in certain communities in Canada, regardless of how lawful or appropriate that enforcement action was. I've spent my entire career working in one of those communities, I have no doubt in my mind.

Even if I'm wrong, the party that kicks off that relationship with India and begins enforcement of that separatist community in Canada is playing a risky game as far as their political future is concerned.

Well and what does ‘enforcement’ even mean? Being a Sikh separatist in Canada isn’t an offence. What is there for us to enforce?

You're correct, and I've used the wrong word.

I suppose what I mean by enforce is spend a lot more time letting CSIS/INSET types gather intel and figure out the who's who, share that information with India, and honour any extradition requests that come as a result of that, as an example?

To be clear I'm not advocating for that to happen, its just what my tired brain has managed to come up with as a possible course of action that might keep India happy that we're taking their domestic issues seriously and to stop interfering in our own internal affairs.

I don't have the answers for the issues the South Asian community in Canada is having, but I am sick of hearing about this extortion debacle that continues in the City I police.

INSET investigates criminal offences under Canadian law that are also threats to the security of Canada as defined in the CSIS act. They might incidentally gather some criminal intelligence, but that’s not their function.

Sharing information with India for things not criminal under Canadian law would bring huge risks. The federal government and its agencies are also subject to law to avoid complicity in mistreatment by foreign governments. So if India wanted to extradite someone for, say, advocating Sikh separatism, and if we don’t recognize that as criminal, Canada couldn’t just offer them what we know or kick that person out.

And, if that someone is a Canadian citizen, then what? Hand them over to India because they hurt Modi's feelings?

Political, legal, moral and ethical minefield.

It’s not but it’s like what we did in the 60’s-70’s and allowed in lots of Croatians Nationalists and viola, along comes the Yugo Civil War and lots of RCMP surveillance of places for gun running, funds solicitation, recruitment, etc.
Why do we bring this stuff into our country?

You know what... when you frame it that way, it does look like PP was a very effective leader of the CPC. He did an effective job of highlighting the weaknesses of both Trudeau specifically and of the Trudeau LPC in general. I mean, Trudeau/the LPC were doing it to themselves, but PP acted as a force multiplier. The end result is Trudeau is gone, and Carney is in power and if the pundits are to be believed, Carney has brought in a lot of programs/initiatives that a CPC government would have brought in as well. So, other than not getting to be PM, (and not getting to quash the "assault weapon" OICs), PP effectively "did his job".

I don't know if he was an effective leader of the CPC. I don't think history will look kindly on his hubris and unwillingness to read the room and know when its time to leave. I do think he was effective in that he forced out probably the worst PM in Canadian history. So in reality he was good for Canada. Canada would be much worse off right now if PMJT had stayed in. But for the CPC he will probably be remembered as a force detractor, IMHO.

I think he sees himself something akin to a Mariano Rivera, someone who can come in shut down the opposition and get the win. In reality he was at best a Jeff Nelson or Mike Stanton set up man who was left in the game to long and got blown out in the 9th.
