Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

Ah. Replacement. I thought this was a supplement to current fleets.
Likewise. With the scarcity of airframes I can't see anyone divesting of a serviceable a/c. Maybe sideline them as backups but certainly not disposal. I haven't read where they are replacing any of the current airframes. I wonder though about the phrasing of the joint statement where they mention the purchase and procurement of a/c and equipment from both Canada and Europe. Is there efforts being made to entice DE Havilland into establishing a second assembly line somewhere in Europe or am I reading more into it than I should?

I suspect that the argument would be similar to what people say about assembling military aircraft in Canada; 25 airframes isn't much of production run. It's a niche aircraft and the reason BBD closed its line was because everybody who wanted one had one - until they wanted more.

As I understand it from reading the Federal news releases is that there may be a second line started up here in Canada to accelerate the delivery schedule. I believe Viking is also looking at more than just the CL-515 production as they also have the rights to all the old De Havilland product lines (Twin Otters, Buffalos, Beavers etc.) and have been producing a small number of new airframes.

There is a capacity difference between the CL-215 and -415...but even the -415 airframes are a minimum 10 years old and up to 23 years. It's also high stress flying (i.e. hard on airframes) so I'm sure there's a small fleet of aerospace engineers looking at structural aspects and maintanaince schedules for things like wing spars.

The CL-215's started in 1966...that means some are 60 years old...and the newest airframe is 36 years old. That's a ton of miles.

CL-215ST are an odd mix of original CL-215's that have undergone full re-builds and would be considered "newer" airframes than the original construction date. Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta have these models for example.

I'm honestly not sure if they are replacements or new capacity...but the age of aircraft has me leaning towards replacement especially as we're looking at another 5+ years before the Canadian orders start coming off the line due to Canadian provinces being slower to place orders than Europe.

A slow sustained line of 4/year would mean a fleet of 100 being retired at the 25 years point. (Or taken on my some of the more adventurous and creative small operators).

OK, bear with me. Mods, this may be more appropriate in a jokes thread.

It is from "This Guys's Garage" Youtube page and usually he offers zero commentary and just shows what was going on in parliament and committee, letting you decide for yourself, what you think.

This one time, he did go partisan and portray Minister Champagne in a "new version" so to speak. Enjoy, odly it matches his voice.

I guess he didn't put the WE scandal in his resume. Good luck CIBC! ;)

Whoops. Bad look for Morneau.

Worth noting that this same ethics commissioner has found former PM Trudeau in breach of Conflict of Interest on a previous investigation (SNC Lavalin), so he’s willing to hold Trudeau accountable when the facts of an individual investigation support it.

The next round of byelections has been called for December 7th.

Three ridings in Quebec, two in Ontario, one in Saskatchewan. Likely PM Carney will be able to secure his majority to the tune of a couple more seats. 3-4 is a reasonable guess. Currently he needs 172 and has 173, so one or two truculent MPs can cause a fair bit of a problem if they wish. Getting that up to 176 or so would probably be a welcome relief.

70,000 people allowed into the plan who shouldn't have been, 10s of millions of $ handed out in error and will not be recovered...

I don't recall this being a big thing in the press.

Tens of thousands mistakenly approved for dental coverage, Health Canada says

Tens of thousands of people were mistakenly approved for coverage under the public dental insurance program, Health Canada said Tuesday.

Roughly 70,000 people were approved for coverage under the plan but were later deemed ineligible or had been assessed for an incorrect copayment level, a news release from Health Canada said.

Of those who were inaccurately assessed, roughly 28,000 people actually received care under the plan.

Speaking of...

We'll see how much of the CPC vote ends up splitting between Davis and Carroll.

Stepping away from the 2025 election results for Brantford-Brant South riding (Trump was the big wild card and in my opinion was the key influence in that election and Jagmeet crapped the bed huge taking the NDP mostly out of play)
In the previous 2021 election it was
-CPC 26,668
-LPC 18,784
-NDP 12,950
-PPC 5,634
-Green and Indys 2,000 or so

So this is potential battle ground. That being said, it depends on who the NDP runs, as you can see from the 2021 election result, they were a major factor in this riding.

Former Mayor Kevin Davis is well known and very popular for some and strongly disliked by others. He is the CPC candidate. Their is also a former Conservative running as an independent.

The LPC started massively campaigning last week in the riding so everyone knew the by elections were being called very soon.

As Warren Kinsella says "Which party gets their base out the strongest will win" .

That being said, if this riding is lost, many are saying the party may ask Pierre to step down (some of you are pretty excited about that prospect).

Brock gave Carroll (the now Independent) his endorsement just the day prior to Davis being crowned the CPC candidate, bypassing the traditional nomination process. It's going to be messy.
