Liberal (Minority/Majority) Government 2025 - ???

That being said, if this riding is lost, many are saying the party may ask Pierre to step down (some of you are pretty excited about that prospect).

Friend, we can support the party without supporting he leader. I dont hate PP. He did what he was intended to do.

Just like I can love Canada and despise the Gov.

PP needs to go, Carney and the LPC are starting show sings of weakening and we need someone who Canadians can find inspiration from and finally pull us out of this world LPC division and mismanagement.

Canadian economy shrank 3.4% in fourth quarter

PP is not that guy.

I’m sure I’ve gotta be missing something here. What are you getting at with that particular article?

20-33% of recent US GDP growth is related directly to AI and data centre developement.

That's going to be awesome for all the rampant water usage, given the sustained droughts they are already seeing. What a huge waste of energy, and the majority of it is for generating complete nonsense using far more energy than skilled people could do.

Oooookay.

Sure.

Am I missing something?
Hes saying 20% of their economic growth is tied up in a product of questionable benefit which appears to be sitting on a bubble. That bubble is also causing problems throughout the economy beyond the usual means because its sucking up so much capital that money for more productive ventures such as industrial or commercial development is drying up. Hell its affecting the housing market by making labour more scarce as primes are willing to pay so much for construction trades. Its unsustainable.

Ah! It's Americas fault.

Why not just say that ?

I'm just calling this out, that's all.

Its a bit like fracking - its rampant in the US, rural poverty stricken areas that are losing their rural drinking water supplies. The data centre's in the US are overwhelmingly moving into the same areas in the US.

We've got very limited fracking occurring across Canada because of the massive push back against it. Its becoming the same issue with data centre's here in Canada.

Its a question of rampant business growth, balls to the wall approach very our more cautious approach. One is basically growth at any cost vs growth at a more balanced approach. Personally, I think that we need to find a more 'centered' approach, but what do I know.

Lastly, re data center's are going to be about 'sovereignty' residing here in Canada. With the VAST majority of AI companies being American, the data centre's will be owned by US.

Anecdote: a friend works for a company that Wall Street now considers to be part of the AI family, and is seeing the commensurate spiking of its market valuation.

He is capable of doing math, can see the valuations across the industry vs revenue and even the most optimistic revenue growth estimates.

He's moving his stock based compensation out of the industry rapidly and deliberately (I suspect past experience with the Big Nerd Ranch is influencing him).

But I suspect the current AI bubble will land like so many others. Maybe Ottawa can add an AI fest to the annual Tulip Fest.

All good. I’m the last person to ever driticize a lack-of-coffee induced haze.

GDP growth? Highly doubtful. If you want to tie market index valuation to that? Sure. But no way AI companies are genuinely generating that much actual economic activity.

You quoted me... I assumed it was some form of reply to me...

These guys say different...

Tracking AI’s Contribution to GDP Growth

Our analysis suggests that the recent investments in AI-related categories have contributed significantly to the real GDP growth in 2025. It has surpassed the contribution of IT components to the real GDP growth made during the dot-com boom, both in levels and as a share of GDP. As firms continue integrating AI into their operations and building the infrastructure required to support it, these categories are likely to remain significant drivers of investment well into 2026 and beyond.

No, I wasn't clear in my statement I guess - of the recent 3.4% GDP growth for the USD - 20%-33% of that was tied to AI/Data centers. So, 1.1% of their GDP growth, at the high end, (the 33%), was strictly related to AI and Data center construction spending only, nothing else.
