Met Tech Info?

Booking anything that far out at this point is very risky, as you cannot count on any measure of stability. Could the church make an exception for you, and let you book with less lead time due to what you are doing?

Sorry My bad, I was trying to say Winnipeg Manitoba. Sorry for the confusion.

Any ideas of when Met Tech course starts this year? Is it August and January?

Why are you using the Armoured Corps symbol for your avatar?

George Wallace
I'm using that one because I haven't graduated anything yet including basic, I should probab;y earn one first before I use it. But the armoured fist was my cap brass in cadets. It's the only i recognize right now.

For people who are OTs, is it TD for the course in Winnipeg or a posting?

Hey guys I am starting my Met course June 28th until December 9th. And doing my Basic Air Qualification
from June 21st to June 25th.
I am not sure what date is the next one though. In January sometime.

Take care!

I heard there was one guy who went to Shearwater right after the QL3 a few years back.  First QL3 graduate since 1984 or something like that to be posted there.  Apparently his crap was wired so tight he got promoted to MCpl with just two years in the trade.

That would be a myth.  Nobody makes MCpl in two years if they come in off the street.

There was (is?) someone who was employed there while awaiting QL3, and was posted there afterwards, but their spouse was posted to one of the Sqns at Shearwater.

Are you sure about that Occam?  Weatherdog can verify it.  I heard he used to drink beers with him around the campfire.

Absolutely sure.

Minimum 36 months service for Accelerated Promotion to Cpl (see CFAO 49-4).
Minimum 24 months time in rank as Cpl for promotion to MCpl (see CFAO 49-4).

This mythological person therefore could not have even made Cpl in two years, never mind MCpl.

What about if he had previous (eligible) reserve time?  Or a remuster perhaps?

I can't see it.  The only way he would have obtained TCP (Time Credit - Promotion) would have been if he had previous quals in the trade on re-enrolment.

In the case of a remuster, it would be impossible to reach MCpl in two years.  Even if he were a Cpl on remuster, he'd have 114 training days of QL3 to get through.  On grad, your PERs go to the boards but you're not ranked nor are you promotable for two years in the new trade.

Cool, I've learned something new today.  I can go home now.   ;)

I know that it can and does happen in my trade. It's not that common, but three years to MCpl is about the standard for a remuster in the Met trade these days. One remuster went from QL3 to their 6B in six years.

Call me an extremely skeptical former OT.

Be as skeptical as you like I happen to personally know both of the examples I gave, and can name names for the three year MCpls.

If people think their trades are messed up they should come over to Met and see just how strange things can be.

Three years is possible, but it was earlier mentioned as two years, which is impossible.

A Corporal OT's in Apr 2008, does QL3, gets posted to first unit, get first PER in Apr '09 (1st year of not being promotable due to OT).  Goes on and gets second PER in Apr '10. (second year of not being promotable due to OT over and done with).  That PER goes to the merit board in fall '10, assuming they get ranked high enough they're promotable 1 Jan 2011, but unless there is a vacant position for them to go into directly, they'll wait until APS 2011 to put up the leaf (if, and only if they've obtained QL5 status, which I don't know if Met Tech has a course for anymore).

Three years, three months.  Potentially two years, nine months if they're lucky enough to be in a place where there is already a vacant MCpl position.

It cannot happen any faster than that.

im thinking of re mustering from the navy, does anyone know if the trade is open or when it will be opening?

The trade is open for sure, can`t recruit as fast as we are losing people.

really? i heard they accept only like 1 course load per year or 10-12 ppl.

thx for the info

Need more info? Send me an email joe_owen45@hotmail.com. I'm the training manager for the Met Trade and the recruit's career manager. The trade is open and we run 2 basic occupation qualification (BOQ) courses per year, Max load per course is 20. Next course starts 05 Jan 2011 and there are still 8 seats available, contact your PSO ASAP and you might be able to get on the next course.  Courses run from Jan -Jun and Jul to Dec, upon successful completion you are posted to Gagetown to continue with your OJT.

This post has been quiet for a while
I should be heading on my Bridge training shortly, so Winterpeg here I come.  This is a post that I wanted to reply too
CT'd DEC 2006, retook the QL3 April-July 2007 re-did my QL4 fall of 2007 after loosing my wife in the fall of 07 was posted to the Guns in 08 promoted to MCpl in 09.  yes I have had previous experience in the trade but have experienced a lot over the past 33years.  I now have 14 years in this trade have seen it grow from a green trade (for those that remember the CF Greens) with the old salts that started out in the Navy as Met techs and the Grunts that started out as Army Met.  Myself I started out in green asked for a Navy uniform when offered in 89 but was forced to wear the Blue something to do with no Officers so we had to be Air-Force and now that we are official Purple as of April 2011 hope to have the opportunity to wear a White Uniform to go along with the Crown and Anchor that I soon hope to be presented with for my Sea Time.  Even if I never get to go back to sea which I surly would do.  I still tell people that think of joining this trade that its a good one.  I have sailed around the world literally as a Met Tech and was deployed to Afghanistan at a FOB using my skills taught to me by the Infantry on both the Guns and Mortars as well as doing my Job as a Airman sending up Balloons so that the guns could do their job more accurately.  This trade has a lot of growing coming up in the next few years I will hopefully be around for at least 5 of them to see how the new Tactical Meteorological Specialist's build up the trade for the next generation of techs.
