Poll results

38% of Canadians say their attitude toward the U.S. has worsened since 9/11. Of those, 45% say this is because of the war in Iraq or dislike of the Bush administration.

12% of Americans say their attitude toward Canada has worsened. Of those, 47% say this is because Canada didn‘t support the war or isn‘t committed to fighting terrorism.

49% of Canadians see the U.S. as arrogant, bullying or dangerous. 1% think Americans are funny or humorous.

45% of Americans see Canadians as tolerant or compassionate. 11% think we‘re funny or humorous.

68% of Canadians think America‘s global reputation has worsened over the past 10 years. Only 7% think it has improved.

9% per cent of Americans think Canada‘s reputation has worsened. 25% say it has improved.

If the U.S. was attacked by its enemies, 75% of Canadians support Canadian troops being deployed in America‘s defence. 18% oppose that.

If Canada was attacked, 84% of Americans support their troops being sent to help us. 12% are opposed.

Its interesting to see that why we still have key disagreements we are both rather close to rushing to the others aid if attacked. Good to see.

Yeah, well, that‘s not a poll of the Canadian government, but of the people. And I find it pretty disturbing that 49% of our people think the US is a bully.

There is no negativity to the CDN People or its military I just don‘t like the Government and its policies (where have I heard that one before?) ;) [/qb]
How can the US realistically expect support from the world when your sentiment is echoed by so many in your goverment? Maybe if the US did care what other nations thought you might see a turn around in international support.

As for your second point, come on Major Baker in one instance you don‘t care what we think and we are suppose to believe that it is not negativity directed at the CF and the Canadian people. You can‘t have it both ways!

I don‘t much like our goverment either but if you don‘t want others to attack the policies of GWB don‘t you think you should practice what you preach?

It says"arrogant, bullying or dangerous", not just a bully. Well they are arrogant but then I can be also when I think i‘m taking the high road.
Now Mr. Baker I think a little better response might be forthcoming from you because you SHOULD care what your best friend thinks. Your post sounded a lot like some of the drivel coming from Canadians to "your people" that I have railed against in the past.
I do anticipate your response to this post.

Milkbone for someone that does not want to start a flame war you have a real funny way of showing it. That post is just asking for it and understandably so.

Milkbone
Do you really think this find-it-anywhere-drivel really helps in this arguement? This is a forum, not a repeater station for regurgutated crap, come up with your own arguement there "student".

Unfortunately, this statement isn‘t really true anymore. There was a recent poll (sorry, don‘t have a reference for it) of Americans asking what nation they considered to be their "best friend". The answer was the UK. You can blame our government‘s actions in recent years for this, not to mention the ample anti-American sentiments being voiced around this country. I find it highly disapointing that there is so much anti-Americanism in Canada. Personally, I blame the media and the government for the anti-Americanism. But there is always that inescapable bit of anti-American attitude being brought into the country by immigrants.

Major Baker,
Remember the tounge-in-cheek thing does‘nt read well. Use the smilies and it comes across better.
Oh and the reason the "good" comics go to the USA is to furthur our takeover of Hollywood.
[remember that movie?]

Sorry I guess we posted at the same time...see thats better. :p

No Major I‘m sure 99% of us thought the "throw me a bone line" was funny.
Milkbone, I see you edited out almost your whole post. This is a thing that irks me, if you wish to post something, post it and stick to it, if you change your mind because others jump on it maybe you really did‘nt mean it and should‘nt have put it there in the first place. I‘d rather have you leave it and take the heat [or the accolades[sp]].
But all I was trying to get across to you was don‘t list something off the net that does‘nt add but rather tell the forum what YOU think and lets debate.
CHEERS, Bruce

Milkbone,
You must understand the name of the forum IS army.ca. Post your opinion by all means but do understand that you won‘t understand the military and the things that can go with it. We have people here who have seen things that we can only hope never to see.
I have never gone to Univ. so I probably would‘nt debate student life with someone[like yourself] who has gone or is going at the present.I would probably be a reader also save for the occasional post here and there. They are two totally different worlds.

Hey I seen this poll. I‘m pretty sure it was on a CBC special awhile back where a whole bunch of news broadcasters polled a whole bunch of different countries asking them questions about the US. I remember though that when they asked the UK who they thought was their best friends most did not say the US. It was some other commonwealth country (I can‘t really remember an don‘t want to BS everyone  )

I love Canada but the politicians do not support enlarging our military because the bleeding heart hippy population of Canada (the majority) do not make known or care or think that Canada needs a better funded military, thus the politicians do not address the issue as they should because the may risk the votes they need. Look at the Liberals they waste ONE BILLION dollers on gun registration even when gun violence and death is low think about those who do use weapons for murder and violence do you think they are going to say "gee I should register my illegal stolen handgun and sawed off shotgun cause thats how the process works"****in politicians. That billion would have been better spent on the military. And security here is ****in ridiculous look at the Khdar family all that information on theses people and we say "OHH THATS NOTHING COME OVER HAVE SOME FREE MED CARE AND A FAT WELFARE CHECK WE TAKE ALL KINDS".
Maybe the population would wake up if someone flew a plane into PARLIMENT or the CN TOWER. The general thought of our country as the passive pushover pansy makes me sick but it is a reality that every Canadian must face. I would like to keep pooping on our Country and politicians postion‘s on terrorism and the military but I have to stop before I throw my computer through the wall.

[moderator edit: language slightly cleaned up, lest little kiddies be offended]

i don‘t think its that most of canada doesn‘t make known, care or think that Canada needs a better miliary I think the only reason most people vote for the liberal party is because they are a no change party and most people like it or not are afraid of change. just look at how the opposition has been saying that Canada needs change and when the rest of Canada finally gets on board with that the liberals start saying they are a party of change. a change of what though??? new lies? i will not believe the liberals are changing anything until i see it. for the liberals to wake up and change anything it will almost take something as drastic as 9/11 up here.

the sooner that canadians realize they don‘t need to be loved by anyone the better. mcleans is a great canadian publication, but the entire magazine seems have one of these "does the US still like us?" articles every two weeks. it gets tiring. who the heck cares? let‘s just be canada, not everyone‘s friend.

Since Canada‘s population base is out of Ontario and PQ, so are these votes on the poll as far as I am concerned, and we know a large amont of ethics and other immigrants reside in TO and Montreal, etc. So, I may suggest this poll is wrong, and that it does not cover the demographics of the broad spectrum of real Canadians. Example try the same poll in AB-SK-MB, and you‘d get a different result. Or have it done in TO and again it would be way higher for teh negative results.

My 2 bob worth.

Cheers,

Wes
