I took an informal non-scientific poll (+ or - 99%) today from the people at work. Below are the results:

1. Do you care what Canadians or their government think about the USA?

80% - Canada? Where is that?
10% - NO -- Canada schmanada, who cares?
7% - Is that the same place the Senator Kerry was going to go before he received his draft notice?
3% - You mean Bob and Doug still live there?

2. Would you support sending of troops to help defend Canada against invasion?


99% NO -- defend, how about invade?
1% NO -- whatever, talk to the hand ‘cause the face aint listenin‘!

3. Do you think Canada is our best friend?
95% NO -- Do best friends call you B******s, kick sand in your face when you have been sucker punched and then work behind the scenes with France to ensure that the Prime Minister‘s Son‘s nvestment in the French Oil Company Fina are safe.

5% NO -- Do best friends allow "DESERTERS" to request asylum in their country during a time of war?

You might think its funny that relations between the US and Canada is at an all time low but I don‘t.
I know when someone that I know go off on an Anti American tirade I try to inform them with the realities of the world. Admittedly sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn‘t, you might want to try and do the same.

Maj. Baker, you really need to re-think your strategy here... You‘re representing Americans to us Canadians, and I‘m not sure you‘re making a lot of frieds with posts like this. Making a political statement is fine - just bear in mind that if you cast aspersions upon Canada, don‘t cry "Anti-Americanism" when it‘s the other way around. In fact, given the fact that most your posts are laced with anti-Canadian sentiment, you should probably expect it.

So again: what was the purpose of this post?

P.S. I‘m sure if the poll was really taken at Ft. Huachuca, we‘d have seen muskrat‘s indignation in there somehwere...

I believe in polls about as much as I believe in polititions. Depending on what viewpoint you want or who‘s footing the bill, they will only release the polls that make print/air time or that support what the purchaser wants. don‘t lose sleep over it.

I read your post quite carefully before I posted, it still smacks of anti-Canadianism no matter how you slice it.

Which is fine on it‘s own right, but like I mentioned earlier: you‘ve now forfeited your right to cry foul when someone bashes the US or it‘s policies.

Personally, I‘d like to see the Canada/US relationship strengthen, rather than weakened by pot shots like this.

How about I conduct a poll up here on what Canadians think of Americans? Then post the results on socnet.com or some other American based military board, entirely for fun of course. I highly doubt it would be that well recieved. Informal or not, the results of your suppposed poll do not surprise me in the least. Ignorance is a common trait amongst Americans, is it not? Do you make it a habit of pissing in your neighbor‘s living room? Oh right, I forgot, your American. Good representation of the U.S. Army, MAJOR.

The poll in Maclean‘s was supposed to give a rough idea of Canadian attitude, albeit perhaps in accurate; This "poll" is more or less a kick in the nuts.
