Militia- - - -
1st, can anyone give me an outline of what a typical day at Meaford
is like for QL3 infantry? As in what is normally done at what part of the day?
Officer- - - - If I want to get a degree in ,say, English or History or
whatever, in university, could I then remuster from being a NCM in a militia
unit to an officer in a Reg. Force infantry unitRCR\PPCLI I think the plan
I would have to use is DEODirect Entry Officer
Can anyone offer any guidance??
Thanks,
-Matt

Trying not to laugh too loud, Matt.. try this,,
Meaford is no different from any other Recruit Training place...think
getting up about 0530-0600. I‘ve never been on a current recruit course,
but some things are timeless..and the reverse is, you‘ll likely get to bet
as early as you can..
There will be a number of things that are, or seem to be, physically tough.
You‘ll surprise yourself at how physically tough you can be..because, just
like the Recruiting Message, here‘s how you can be "All You Can Be". If the
physcal stuff does not daunt you, the mental stuff might. You‘ll be pushed
and shoved and directed by various rank levels, and, at times, it may not
seem quite fair. Remember those feelings if and when you are wearing those
boots forgive me the pun. And things later on seem, or maybe are, worse,
but you already know that you do not join for a happy day. Be aware of what
your brothers are doing in Bosnia, for example, and that we the inexorable
tax payer, may ask YOU to do next. It won‘t be easy.
When you see medals on a Canadian, you see a soldier to respect..
But don‘t let me discourage you. Who does these things nobody wants to do?
Those who can.
Try to be one of them.
John

While there are some sifferences between the Regular and Reserve Force QL3
Infantry courses, the training day itself is usually fairly similar.
Sometimes the Rserve Courses may actaully work longer days to get the
required traiuning done in the allocated timeframe. The Regular soldier
over 16 weeks alos get a gfew more training subjects as part of his
course.
I do not have a Reserve Infantry timetable handy, but here are a couple of
representative training days for a Regular Force QL3 Infantry course run in
Meaford last year.

As for transferring as a Reserve NCO to a Regular force officer position,
it‘s basically back to the start line. Even Regular Force Sergeants that are
offered their commision go back to Basic Officer training, and warrants
begin as Lieutents at Phase III training for platoon commanding. DEO is an
option iof they‘re offering in the year you apply, DEOs for infantry are
usually comissioned as Second Lieutenants to recognize theri degree, but
there is no reductiojn in required training.
