Replacing the Subs

No. It would mean they are in the water. That's a lot of maintenance. Better that they be high and dry. It would be better for Haida and Sackville too, BTW.
The tour guide at Ojibwa told us the cost to build the 1km road to bring it up on shore was equal to 1km of the 401 at its widest point. I don't even know how many lanes that is. I think they got the sub for $1 but they spent $6 million parking it.

I don't think any subs will be saved for a while after that.

I toured a few years back France’s first nuc boat in Cherbourg. They’ve got it docked and in the water. A great tour.

Even though it "drained" the money from the DND budget it still allowed the RCN to preserve the skills and keep us in the sub game. If we didn't buy them we have nothing right now and no reason to buy 12 submarines.

I mean look if some private enterpise wants to take this one and DND and the GoC are cool with it then go for it.

But if that's the metric we want to use, I would argue Atserix should get the same fate as arguably her ops tempo vastly surpasses any Vic sub; and her value for sea mile has provided the RCN with way much more in the continuity of skill.

100%. There are plenty of valid criticisms of the Asterix program from start to finish. But I've posted other places this same thought. Asterix did what it said on the tin, and did what we asked her to do. She was a gas station and training facility for us, and kept us in the globally deployable game with the skills to keep doing that at a time when we had no other options.

When PRO (I'm no longer using JSS) starts doing RAS' as soon as the equipment is certified, its because we kept those skills alive with Asterix.

Actually, improved on them because Asterix and the new PRO are a lot more automated than the old PRO class or Provider before them.
