Seeking clarification for reserve training on weekends

Hi all,

I have attempted to sort out how exactly completing occupational training works for reserve positions in the CF, but have gotten somewhat confused.

I know that the actual BMT training can be done over the weekends throughout the year, but what about qualifications for taking courses?

I am interested in becoming a reserve Avionics Technician while I go to school, but how exactly does the 30 week Basic MOC and 24 week secondary training (when full time) fit in to this scheduling? It seems like it would take forever to get through the course aspect if only offered over weekends.

Thanks for the input.

The RCAF does not offer weekend courses.  You'll do the full-time Reg F courses, or not be enrolled.

I've never heard of anyone in the Air Reserve in a 500-series MOC (all the air maintenance folks) who didn't pick up their quals while serving in the Reg F.

i have...he's a reg f pilot now but that's how he got his start, as a 500 series reservist.

Not sure how it fares now, but previously reserve trades training typically took place during summer employment periods, with some courses being run at the unit level during training nights and weekends.

Since I left, I do know that a lot of technical trades training and some others are now run in blocks during the year, to come more into line with Reg Force training schedules.

Right, but even as a 500 series reservist when he started off, he had to do the Reg F 500 series qualification courses. That was the point.

We do the same thing with the Res ATIS Techs... It is just not feasible to break the training up into weekends and summers
