Self Defence in Canada (split from Gun Control 2.0)

Looks like the police officer was lucky firefighters were on scene.

The incident is under investigation.

Maybe the scene was under control until he showed up to uncontrol it. From the clip, we don't even know what the scene was and how he fit into it.

Worth remembering municipal firefighters and paramedics provide non-law enforcement emergency services .

The public is now used to seeing fire trucks on EDP calls . It wasn't always that way.

For example, The City of Dearborn , Michigan handled approximately 3,500 fire department calls in 1968, compared with more than 18,000 annually today, despite having roughly the same population.

Hard to believe there has been that much of an increase in fires.

That is the trend , now , across Canada and the U.S.

We would never have displayed a forcicible entry tool , such as the long pry bars we were equipped with , on an EDP call. At least , I never did.

Unless a police officer or member of the public needed help , forcible entry tools stayed in the ambulance.

If a tire iron , wrapped in a pillowcase , happened to be discretely stashed at hand under the stretcher mattress , on a high rise gig , just in case , was another matter.

And , no , that is - NOT - to say I would , or would not , condone such a thing.

As much as possible, we tried to stay in the background, but in visual contact with the police . They were in charge. We were ready to immediately move in the moment they gave us a hand signal to participate in a possible take down and stretcher restraint. Help the police in any way possible. Other than that, let them do their job.

Tasers and chemical restraint were after my time.

"Storage of firearms charges are always a concern for victims because of the challenge they would have while under threat to get their gun from one locked box and their ammunition from another while locating their pin for assembly"

since when do you have to remove the firing pin?
also the above storage requirements only apply to restricted fireams, do they not?

According to the RCMP:

Storing firearms safely

Store the ammunition separately or lock it up. It can be stored in the same locked container as the firearms.

Non-restricted firearms

Attach a secure locking device, such as a trigger lock or cable lock (or remove the bolt) so the firearms cannot be fired; or
Lock the firearms in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into.

Restricted and prohibited firearms

Attach a secure locking device so the firearms cannot be fired and lock them in a cabinet, container or room that is difficult to break into; or
Lock the firearms in a vault, safe or room that was built or modified specifically to store firearms safely.
For automatic firearms, also remove the bolts or bolt carriers (if removable) and lock them in a separate room that is difficult to break into.

Honest officer I was just finished putting my gun back together after a cleaning... And was just putting my ammo away.
