I recently had my replacement medals sent to me.  I lost them though a move.  I earned them and was proud of them.  Given they are not a Victoria Cross but the kids in my family wanted to see them.
What I received after a 2yr wait & numerous email mess ups (I dbled checked my end)  were lengths of ribbons & 3 medals secured in a strip of cardboard and bound with scotch tape.  Not the way they were presented to me.  No fasteners (gold brazened clasp applications that bind the ribbon & medal into a presentable form), backing, or ribbons pins.  I've emailed my displeasure & have yet to get a reply.  My complaint must've been sent to my old (probably comfortably retired) career mangler,- I mean manager. This week I'll send out my letter of concern w/Ref to this item as well as photos of said medals.

Wish me luck. It'll probably take 2 more years.

They should've at least packaged them properly. Good luck on your complaint.

Interesting, I had my medals stolen from my home and filed a Police report. When applying for replacements I included a copy of the Police report and the replacements arrived from VAC in two months. The one from the GGs Office took about three months and cost me $20.00. They came on little cardboard boxes with a length of ribband and a bar to mount them on.

How could they possibly ensure that you recieved you replacement medals promptly, when they cannot even issue a CD on time....I mean really it's only medal they know your getting in 12 years, there is a little bit of prep time.

Very expensive comment if you ask me.  If they prepped all these medals, and then as is the case with a high percentage of members, you get out before you are entitled to get it; do you expect them to grind your name and SN off of it and put someone else's on it?  Unnecessary work and expense.

I guess I dont feel so bad any more about still waiting for my medal from OP Athena Roto 0..lol  :dontpanic:

George,  I realize that, I was just venting, maybe a year + is average. But there should be a more expeditious method of issuing and re-issuing medals. The internet does not always make things faster.

Canadian Sig, I guess there are a few units that have not held parades to issue them out yet

Don't feel bad. Your far from alone on that one. There's lots of us from Roto 0 that haven't got them. They keep giving them out to the current rotos, but can't find enough for us?

Haven't had a parade to give out Roto 0 GSM?  Those for people in Toronto, they haven't even arrived yet.  I would love to know how many if any Roto 0 GSM's have been handed out (Outside of the GG's ceremony)

I'm waiting on the GCS, and still no word. Not for lack of asking though. Same response each time (if I get one at all) "You'll get it when you get it, we don't know, quit asking" ::)

edited for spelling

sierra, more than a few have been handed out around Pet already. Guess we just all have to be patient.  :salute:

All Roto 2 personnel received their GCS or SWASM prior to departing theatre.  Some of the TSE personnel left theatre in Dec 04 prior to being awarded their GSM (or GCS  :rage: for that matter).
