Sweden to 'evaluate' adding French long-range strike missiles to new frigates - Breaking Defense
After inking a €4.3 billion frigate deal, Sweden’s defense minister told Breaking Defense Stockholm was keeping an “open mind” about additional cruise missiles.
Interesting point.
A patrol frigate is a limited geographic threat. A frigate with long range strike missiles, especially in the narrow confines of the Baltic, becomes a strategic threat.
A ship operating in the North Atlantic, where Canadian ships are expected to operate, have a lot of sea room and opearte largely outside enemy ability to counter.
A ship operating in the Baltic mud puddle lacks sea room and operates under the enemy's guns. It also doesn't offer anything that couldn't be supplied by trucks on shore.
