Congress has basically capitulated its power and is allowing the executive to do what it wants. This pack of spineless, gormless worms is no different from the Russian Duma or a majority Canadian Parliament.

Jason Kenney, a former Conservative cabinet minister under ex-Prime Minister Stephen Harper, called Trump’s posts “just embarrassing.”
“The Ontario ad does not misrepresent President Reagan’s anti-tariff radio address in any respect whatsoever. It is a direct replay of his radio address, formatted for a one minute ad,” Kenney posted on social media.
“Everything that Reagan said in his pro-free trade April, 1987 radio message is consistent with the ad. In fact, everything he ever said about trade, before and after becoming President, is consistent with his principled opposition to tariffs.”
Kenney also took aim at the Reagan foundation.
“They know perfectly well that the Ontario ad captures precisely President Reagan’s opposition to tariffs, and support for free trade. But it is obvious that the Foundation now has gormless leadership which is easily intimidated by a call from the White House, yet another sign of the hugely corrosive influence of Trump on the American conservative movement,” he posted

Agee, but in terms of the analogy we're creating, I agree with the first part, but not the second part.
Could the Ford gov. have anticipated this knowing Trump would react this way (because he has known issues)? Quite possibly. But, did they do this specifically to trigger this kind of reaction? I don't believe so.

If we were engaged with a rational actor, that would make sense.
I am unconvinced that Trump wants a deal at all, he wants to be free to dictate terms on a whim.

It will be interesting to see if he and Carney meet quietly together and hammer out a deal.
Otherwise I see nothing moving forward until AFTER the US Supreme Court rules on the tariffs.

For the sake of debate lets say that the Doug Ford government is familiar with Trump's personality.
What could the Ford government expect to achieve by spending $75M on this campaign? Half the US already hates Trump and the other half are ready to invade any country he tells them to. As RangerRay mentions, it does seem like Congress has basically capitulated its power and is allowing the executive to do what it wants.
The ads are not going to suddenly illuminate the US supreme court. Trump and team have already failed to comply with some US supreme court decisions.
I re-watched the ads and yup, they hit the nail on the head. I still don't see the point of spending millions of dollars on them. I don't see what the practical value is other then getting Trump to respond exactly how you would expect him to respond.

I've tried finding the current trade tiff on Fox News's website and I can't find it. Its almost like Fox News doesn't want to show Reagan saying tariffs are bad.

As has been said, it's influence ops. The goal is to reach honest conservatives in the states who respected Raegan, or at least understand that he was a respected conservative, and let him be the authority that says that Tariffs are bad (because lets face it, it doesn't matter how much data you bring to the table, Republican supporters will not believe anything a Democrat says). The goal is to influence them into putting more pressure on their local/state representatives to in turn put pressure on the Congress/the WH.
Sending Trump spiraling is just gravy.

Well, Trump's lawyers are suing the DOJ for all the cost and suffering he experienced with all the cases brought against him. How much is he suing for? Around $230 mil.
But who signs off on that payment if the lawsuit is successful? None other than DJT himself. When asked by the press what he'd do with the money and whether he thought it was wrong for him to sign off on a decision that would mean money going to him, he said something like "I'll donate it to a charity, or maybe to the white house."
So he's going to sue his own government to pay himself $230 million in order to pay for the construction of his new ballroom.

Actually some good reporting out of CBC on air this morning. Apparently there is a lot more to this, in the sense the US is “frustrated” and again allegations of bad faith negotiating for domestic Canadian politics. And, some consideration as to whether Canada is attempting to influence legal appeals in the US court systems taken up by other affected parties (not just our own appeals).
Trump does make reference 3 times to interference in the US courts by Canada. It’s one thing to go into court and fund your own appeals for your own issues, it’s quite another to indirectly fund or assist or support a third party concerning matters of US Constitutional law (if that’s what’s really happening.)
I think it would very prudent of the Canadian government to take the advice of the CSE and accept that notwithstanding treaties and diplomatic exclusions, Canadian government and other party communications are being monitored, there are USG human assets in the Canadian teams, and also certain financial transactions are well known to the USG. POTUS is certainly briefed regularly about Canada, There can be no doubt about that.
