U.S. Annexing Canada (split fm Liberal Minority thread)

Quebec would be making a play for itself before France ever would. And to what end?

France has never had territorial ambitions when it comes to QC.

France is more concerned with its own back yard.

Unlike Alberta separatism, Quebec separatists are looking to have their own country, not join another one.

More curiously, why would you be certain that they would make a move? What leads you to believe that?
For the raw resources.

For the ability for France to diversify where its Nuclear arsenal is located.

For its geo-political reach.

On another level it's a big strategic issue for the West... no ship building capacity isn't great when you're trying to modernize a Navy.
We only buy stuff every 20-40 years, it's not a great business model.

Might make more sense for us to partner with others, like we did with the F35, but with more....reliable, partners. Probably in Europe. That way if we want the kit we can buy it but if we don't at least our industries don't atrophy.

For the raw resources.
Trade can achieve this far more effectively.
For the ability for France to diversify where its Nuclear arsenal is located.
France wants to expand its nuclear umbrella via Quebec? Is this a fact or are you making this up. Has France ever wanted to expand its nuclear umbrella to North America? Pretty sure they have nuclear missile subs anyways so a much more secure option rather than placing nukes on a territory full of insurgents not really appreciating their presence. France could control the whole territory even if wanted to.
For its geo-political reach.
All of that is achievable through trade. And all of that could be said for any country.

Is France doing this now or recently?

It could have at anytime but hasn’t. Nor has it made any overture.

Sorry but it’s a ridiculous theory with no basis. Not historically and not even geo politically.

You have your opinion, congrats.

You have your opinion, congrats.
And you have yours. I just don’t think it’s based on anything beyond fantastical theories with no basis. Congrats.

If you have anything tangible to back up the assertion that France has or might have eyes on a territory it abandoned even before it was conquered centuries ago I’m all ears. There is no historical or geo political evidence to back your claim.

France does not have eyes on Quebec anymore than Spain wants California or England wants British Columbia.
