I'm currently enrolled at Ryerson University studying Criminal Justice, as I am planning on joining the police force. I wanted to know if it was possible to join the reserves on a part-time basis, while still keeping up with my studies, WHILE also maintaining my bills at home. I live on my own so, would I be able to cover the necessities and replace my current jobs?? Is there a certain criteria that must be met in order to qualify for the reserves (i.e. clean criminal record??)

Everything you have asked has been covered extensively, you should do a search.

You should have no trouble balancing studies and working for the Reserve, and there's a good chance (but no guarantee) that you can get a full time call out in the summer.  On top of that there's tuition reimbursement.

Plenty of people I know balance school, a part time job, and being a Reservist.  It's definitely possible, plenty of people make ends meet doing it but you have to maintain the balance carefully.

Thanks alot for the reply! BTW where can I find info on reserves? Like specific lines of work, pay, schedule etc??

I am having a tough time deciding how to vote in this poll....... :-\

I'd pick the one with two question marks.  It's obviously more emotional.  ;D

That one is a toughfy for sure..... ::)

Given where you've said you are in life I would not join the reserves.

Our training is suffering and budget's are a big issue. I don't think the money and experience will be worth your time and effort. Concentrate on your university and getting in physical shape.

The reserves won't help you get in shape and you run a big chance of going to the trouble of joining then being stuck without a basic training course for who knows how long. Not being paid on time or not being paid period is a constant problem with the best of reserve units.

Depending on what year of university you're currently in, you may be able to solve all of these problems by going in to the Recruiting Centre and discussing ROTP ...
