War on Free Speech

It's shows how murky the world is. Social Media does not generally respect national boundaries, countries are generally used to enforcing laws on their turf, but in the internet, where exactly is the "Turf"? Is it the server, or the on the users device? I dislike the UK and EU hate-speech laws, They are to easy to use to bludgeon the population into compliance and very open to abuse by governments, who have a hard time not using a tool to excess when they have unbridled access. I get some of the good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. If you are going to have hate speech laws, the onus on government to prove their case must be strictly enforced, with penalties to both the department and individuals involved in any excess enforcement.

On the subject of "hate- motivated" enforcement, Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit issued a News Release on Christmas Eve,

That's why I floated this out there. Curious to hear the different perspectives on this.

How is it about money??
The social media companies want to make money and the EU wants to fine them massively.

Meanwhile in the UK

Non-crime hate incidents (thought crimes) will be scrapped. Police will no longer enforce them.

Our betters may be getting the message. The British aristos have always had a sense for when the guillotine was getting too close.

Multi-culturalism trumps free-speech in the EU, the UK, Australia and.... Canada?

We are living a social experiment.

Any tumbrils handy?
There is no particularly compelling reason for multi-culturalism to be a goal. Just stop trying to mix liberal and illiberal cultures. When we figure the latter are ready, they can join.

In 2023 police in the UK arrested 32 people per day for online posts. Many of those posts were for causing someone distress or anxiety 🙄
