War on Free Speech

There is no particularly compelling reason for multi-culturalism to be a goal. Just stop trying to mix liberal and illiberal cultures. When we figure the latter are ready, they can join.
There is when one stops to envision the kind of world the EU parliament wants to create for itself...

Force so much multiculturalism into everyday society that countries lose their sense of unique identity.

It's a key pillar of success if one wants to create a 'one world government' or a 'one world religion.'

...

Erase national borders as has been done inside the EU - so people get used to travelling wherever & working wherever.

Eliminate different currencies, as has been more or less done within the EU.

Eliminate different flags, or minimize their significance - as has been done with the EU flag.

Or in the UK, discourage the showing and flying of one's own flag, and publically humiliate & punish those who show loyalty or patriotism to that flag.

The massive legal & financial inconvenience alone will cause most people to comply. Those that don't are to be arrested, named and shown on the evening news for all to see.

Forced mass multiculturalism is simply the next step - but next step on a list only.

As the EU is showing us right now, these steps don't necessarily have to happen sequentially. They can happen quite concurrently, and if being weaponized against a population they should be used concurrently so as to create a psychological & fiscal blitzkrieg of sorts.

"There is no particularly compelling reason for multi-culturalism to be a goal..."

I would respectfully suggest that depends on what final outcome one is trying to achieve...

It is about control and money. Right now the US profits handsomely from social media companies as they own most the top dogs. Anything which undermines that monopoly is unacceptable to the oligarchs as it is low cost high return on said corporations.

Neither side at the moment is serious about freedom of speech which isn't a good thing. The right wants the left censored. Vice versa for the left.

I get very concerned when the government steps in on freedom of speech as it is never used as intended. For example we have the right to freedom of thought, opinion, and expression. That means yes you can be a fascist, communist, monarchist, pro-democracy, pro-authoritarianism, pro-religious theocracy, etc. It is your right. You also have the right to express it.

The only time that should be illegal is if your directly calling for the death of someone else.

What should be promoted in society is tolerance, not acceptance. Tolerance simply means you have to tolerate people you don't like, not that you need to agree with them or think they should exist in the first place.

You mean the Yugoslavian method? Try to keep the lid on the pressure cooker without allowing any pressure to vent out?
I couldn't agree with you more.

The ONLY time speech should be curtailed by the state is when someone is calling for violence against a group or individual, or who is intentionally causing an active disturbance to support such messaging.

(By active disturbance to support such messaging, I'm referring to the Palestinians and other immigrants who have come here & publically protest against something, but call for violence against others while doing so. Or staging their marches through the very neighbourhoods of those they call for there to be violence against. Re Palestinians calling for the elimination of Jews while marching through a Jewish neighborhood.)

...

The hate speech laws we currently have on the books are adequate to address any violations that may take place.

But they risk inflamming the very issues they aim to protect us against if not applied equally across the board, consistently, to all people that are subject those laws. The politics of the day be damned.

(If a bunch of white people marched through a mostly black neighbourhood chanting "Kill Niggers!" I hope the police would show up and kick their asses & break that nonsense up immediately. I think the same should apply to everybody across the board.)

Bertrand Russell: 'Do not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every opinion now accepted was once eccentric'

That's a GREAT quote

" Copenhagen English teacher, Islam Dijab tells France24."

That sentence from this next article stands out for me in so many ways but I'm just going to leave it there.

.....

The article.

It is not just toleration that is being lost. It is the ability to think. You need to be able to argue, if only with yourself.

While younger generations are known for their empathy, their cognitive capabilities seem to be lagging behind those of previous generations for the first time in history.

Since we've been standardizing and measuring cognitive development since the late 1800s, every generation has outperformed their parents, and that's exactly what we want.

Horvath explains that the reason this happens is that each generation has gone to school longer than the previous generation. Gen Z is no exception to the longer duration of time spent in school, but they're the first ones who aren't meeting this normal increase in cognitive development. According to the cognitive neuroscientist, the decline is due to the introduction of screens in the classroom, which started around 2010.

"Across 80 countries, as Jean was just saying, if you look at the data, once countries adopt digital technology widely in schools, performance goes down significantly.

the standardized testing has been adjusted to accommodate lower expectations and shorter attention spans.

But not every country is taking the approach of lowering standards to meet lowered cognitive ability. Denmark went in the opposite direction when it realized their students were slipping behind.

Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year, Denmark has not only been having students turn in their cellphones, but they've also taken tablets, laptops, and computers out of the classroom. No more digital learning for the majority of the school day. Danes went old school by bringing back physical textbooks, workbooks, and writing assignments. The results have been undeniable. Even the students can't seem to deny the success of the countrywide shift in educational approach.

Now, instead of computers being part of every lesson, Denmark uses computers very sparingly and with strict supervision. One student says that it has been nice not having screen time at school because she loves to read and write. But it wasn't just the lack of attention span children were developing, they were also developing low self-esteem and poor mental health due to the amount of time spent on devices.

.....

And with lack of self-esteem comes a greater willingness to follow the herd.
likewise Australia is banning or restricting the use of devices. But the same problems are associated with adult learning. Our notion of modernized learning has included the elimination of a multitude of teaching skills. Chalk boards and overheads have vanished from the classroom and been replaced by 60 inch screens. The process of writing on a board draws the student's attention to what is being written in a way that showing a prepared slide can't do. The actions involved in changing a slide on an old-fashioned OV projector again draws a student's attention. Prepared slides generally contain too much data and viewing them is impersonal. I am not advocating a return to the 60's as much as I would encourage a mix of old and new techniques to attract and hold a student's attention. When a student has a teacher that is visibly putting effort into conveying information they will be more likely to put some value on learning that same information

I can't tell whether you are for or against the goals of the EU. But I spent almost a decade living in Europe working with the EU and I can assure you that all the unified currencies and erased borders will never get a Frenchman and a German onto the same page. Hell a German from Bavaria is totally unique from the one from Heidelberg. The Belgians from Knokke consider themselves different from those living in Namur. So until you can get them on the same page give up on universality. The EU may be a successful financial conglomerate but as a unifying organisation it is a failure.
