It's also quite possible that it suits his needs to have a federal LPC government, because it gives him somebody to contrast against to keep himself popular in Ontario.

He’s certainly made shrewd moves like calling an early election because of a fear that a CPC fed govt could hurt his re election later on. Things certainly changed. But I think that a run for the CPC leadership is in the cards. He made himself into Captain Canada gaining national attention and filled a void PP neglected to fill. Making the assumption that PP loses and he either steps down or gets deposed, a leadership race might only come in 2026. Ford transitions to that. hands over the party to someone like Mulroney and gives him time in opposition to shape the next election race against the LPC. Lots of ifs but not impossible.

I half wonder if Smith is doing the same intentional damage to the CPC, because playing against the federal government suits her political needs.

Not sure that is intentional or not but it certainly helps her in her own party circles.

This is one of the reasons I think the CPC could potentially still win. A last minute shift by the NDP and Bloc could upend the LPC lead. Add to that, that the CPC has more committed voters.

On the day that the election was announced I went to the Elections Canada website and used their form to apply for an election worker position. Might as well not only see how the sausage is made but stuff a few myself. I will now have to be circumspect in comments I make because I was called yesterday and was offered a Central poll supervisor (CPS) position. I now have to attend three training sessions this week to prepare. The 28th could be a long day.

Sure.

Some background (from various parts of Elections Canada website) about how they find poll workers; there is some partisan involvement baked into the Canada Elections Act. I didn't fall into that category so it will be interesting to see whether any of my fellow poll workers come with obvious political bias.

Hiring Process for Poll Workers
Returning officers are responsible for recruiting poll workers for their electoral district.

In the first seven days of the election cycle, returning officers can recruit up to 50% of the required number of election officers. During the same timeframe, candidates and political parties who endorsed a candidate in the electoral district at the previous electoral event can also provide names of potential poll workers to the returning officer. Once this seven-day timeframe is over, returning officers may solicit names from any other sources. Those interested in working as election officers must possess the necessary skills and qualifications, as listed above.

Hiring Process for Election Officers
Returning officers are responsible for recruiting election officers for their electoral district. They must abide by the Canada Elections Act (CEA), which states that priority consideration in each electoral district will be given to individuals on the following lists: for deputy returning officer positions, the list of names provided by the candidate of the registered party whose candidate finished first in the last election; for poll clerk positions, the list of names provided by the candidate of the registered party whose candidate finished second in the last election; and for registration officer positions, the lists of names provided by candidates of the registered parties whose candidates finished first and second in the last election.

During an electoral event, these candidates have until the 24th day before election day to recommend suitable persons for these positions to the returning officer (under section 36 and subsection 39(3) of the CEA). If returning officers do not receive enough names, they can hire people from other sources. Those interested in working as election officers must possess the necessary skills and qualifications, as listed under Available Positions for Employment on Polling Days.

former board member you mean, he was never CEO of brookfield, his highest position was vice chairman of the board. The CEO of BAM is Bruce Flatt, and has been since 2002. Facts matter, and when the CPC claiming Brookfield is Mr. Carney's company when in fact it's Mr. Flatt's is a big difference.

Been watching the Ford fiasco on the webz. There's a lot of Conservatives that are more than mildly pissed at him. If Poliviere has a problem with the vote, you can bet Ford, right or wrong, is going to take tons of flack for it.
